Ark Royal Qatar will "relax" their drinking laws. Only the dick lopped off then.

Makes you wonder why they have them in the first place then really.

My thoughts exactly.

FWIW, I do like their plan for the stadia post-WC

What is the plan?

Disassemble them and send the materials to third world countries.

Kind of like Envirophone only with football stadia.

Isn't it strictly illegal to be drunk in public in the UK?

Nope, that's down to how you behave when drunk. Drunk & disorderly is the offence.

Personally what i would do is scrap the Euros and the ACN and all the other pointless cups and just have the WC every other year, that way everyone wins.... 8)

About Qatar, from someone who's researched the place :
The country has a population of around 1.6 million (around 330,000 of whom are citizens, the rest foreign ex-pats), one international airport, 58 hotels and fewer than 9,000 hotel rooms in the biggest city and capital Doha, including only two two star hotels (the per capita income is around £56,000 a year and there's no income tax).
Same sex relationships are punishable by fines and up to five years in jail so no getting your freak on or even public displays of affection (the latter which also applies to heterosexuals) if you're lesbian, gay or bi.
Being Brahms and Liszt in public can also involve fines and jail. The only places to buy and legally consume alcohol are the posh hotels and bars. I bet Inbev Anheuser-Busch, one of FIFA's main sponsors via their Budweiser brand are thrilled.

soggy biscuit Top research. Drinking is allowed in Qatar.

Wiki Under Qatar's Sharia, it is illegal to show alcohol or be drunk in public.

LOL. How much do we hear on the news about the problems in Britain with drunks etc yet as soon as someone wants us to not get drunk in public we are upset!

There are designated drinking areas already and they have said they will also relax the laws further.

Not many on here will take notice of you Soggy,so many have their preconceived ideas of everything outside of the UK.
Already everyone else is more corrupt than us-yes,in a year when the majority of our MPs have been diddling their expenses including our current prime minister.

Ours was the best bid-did everybody read all of the others and ours and make comparisons or do we take whatever is printed in The Sun as fact?

Ours was the best presentation today-did they all listen in depth to the others?

As for Beckham (I won't disappoint you Foxy)-does he not realise that people in other countries have grandads?
And as for the I won this,I won that,I won the other, I got us to the world cup-I thought it was a team game Becks.

As for Johnny come lately Cameron and a member of our Royal Family-I'm not sure the rest of the world is really interested.

I think English people ought to ask themselves why these other countries don't like us?
On the face of it the bid should have been a shoe-in on historical grounds because of it being 44 years during which Germany for example have had it twice and we are a footballing nation and the venue was to be in Europe.

Face up to it, a lot of the rest of the world don't like us and it's hardly surprising when you see our folk when they step away from our little island and behave as if they own the world.
We are the Milwall of Europe and many of our people don't even want to be in Europe unless they want to go there on holiday.
Oh well all the Little Englanders can blame Sepp Blatter,FIFA,BBC,Sunday Times et al because somebody has to be blamed.

FIFA in being "corrupt money-grabbing bastards" shocker, no World Cup in Western Europe from 2006 to at best 2026 as well as a fcuking shocking allocation of places for teams in Western Europe yet Platini just sits there taking it up the arse from Blatter, if UEFA had any balls they'd tell FIFA where to go

oh and shame on Lineker, Shearer et all for having a pop at the likes of the Guardian and Panorama for calling FIFA on their shenanigans, would they prefer England played the Russia/Qatar/SpainPortugal game of sucking the dicks and greasing the palms of FIFA cronies....prefer to lose in honour than win in shame

oh well one world cup to the mafia and the next to a desert, a great day for football

FIFA are just a disgusting organisation and Blatter needs shooting

Can't see how many votes we got, but Netherlands/Belgium went through the round 2 with 4 votes.

Actually a bit, of maths, 9 + 7 + 4, means we got 2 votes from the committee.

Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes.

Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 12 votes (Russia obtain absolute majority)

How can only 2 people vote for us. There is definitely something dodgy about it.

The English bid team were firmly, totally and definately promised 6 votes; they got 2.

And that isn't a shafting??

Svlad Cjelli A couple of people I know who are generally ITK are saying that support for Russia has "collapsed" in the last week, which is why Putin is not going - he doesn't want to be publicly associated with something that loses.

Seems like your sources aren't quite "ITK" as you - or they - think.
