I dunno - think there'll be some tension during tonight's game (especially with Ghana only needing a point).

If Reading go away from home, create that many chances, have that much pressure, and win 1-0 then every single Reading fan would go home happy.

Yeah it was tense but the pitch was awful and hardly lent itself to playing tidy football. They had zero chances and we should have had another.

Sadly the murking the USA have just dished us means that instead of Ghana then uruguay we're more likely to get Germany then Argentina.

It's definitely not coming home.

NR_Royal Anyone bar Australia could win Group D.

I had an accumulator on group winners:

Uruguay
USA
Germany
Holland
Paraguay
Brazil
and Chile

Could well happen.

You had an acca but only picked 7 and posted it up after the first two non-favourites come in? Anyone smell halibut?

Happy days but in it's way harder to watch than Friday's debacle. Worrying about the route to the final is of course a gimp's game so don't stress on that.

PLus I had Lando to score first for the USA so tis all good

Just letting my nerves recover from that last 25 minutes….

Big LOL to those who slated Milner in the first few minutes, he showed exactly why he's such a good player. Works so bloody hard but can also beat a man AND actually cross the ball. I used to get frustrated by Mr Beckham (the worlds best ever crosser of the ball by all accounts) who used to hit the first defender quite regularly, so I'm happy to let Milner get away with a few of them before he found his range.

Rooney and Lampard might not have been spectacular but they did their jobs. I do wish Rooney would stay a little higher up the field though, especially when you have Gerrard and Lampard running into that similar space.

I thought Gerrard was excellent again and at the heart of all our good attacking play. I don't like him being out on the left, but today it didn't really matter and he looked good.

We certainly didn't look too comfortable at the back though. Johnson looked off the pace and although both did ok, I'm not convinced by Upson and Terry, but it's an improvement over Carragher and Terry who are just too slow to play together.

……and relax!!!!

Hoop Blah
papereyes fwiw, Gerrard's strengths are highly physical and physique related. He's strong, he's fast, he's aggressive, he can hit a ball at goal with some strength.

he has little subtlety or guile.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I totally agree that his strengths are based around his sheer physical power, but don't underestimate his technical ability and vision either.

He might not be a subtle little gem along the lines of Iniesta, but his reading of the way opportunities unfold, where he needs to be to get into goalscoring opportunities and his vision in and around the box (witness plenty of 1-2's with the likes of Rooney or Torres) are still top class, IMO.

Who was the player involved in, and I don't think I'm exaggerating here but I probably am, all our clever 1-2's in and around the box?

Baines
Hoop Blah but his range of long passing is good.

The range of his long passing is good. The accuracy of his long passing is bad.

Did he misplace a single long pass today? I remember 5 or six pearlers to switch play, mainly out to Milner.

Can't believe that everyone is bigging up this result. England bottled it again, the group was there for the taking and we blew it.

2nd place = screwed.

We'll be out next round. Allowing the USA to win the easiest group of the tournament and only scoring two goals lol, pathetic although much improved compared to Algeria.

Milner, A Cole and Terry all played very very well.

Little mention to Upson under huge pressure today, ragged at times but made some crucial tackles. Learnt that at Reading.
