We can't afford him. Move on.

You at least give the lad the option. We can match Swanseas money if they are bidding then so should we

Why?

Perhaps McDermott has decided that he's going to take an approach into the Prem that wouldn't suit Gylfi and the £££s are better spent elsewhere......?

Too many people here living in the past - Gylfi's gone, and is very unlikely to come back - it's time to move on....(incidentally, I'd love to be proved wrong on this, just trying to inject some realism...)

Having a bid rejected doesn't give him an option m9.

Gylfi is a great player, but I'm not entirely sure he would fit into the way we play. I always felt that when we had him in the team, we have to completely rearrange the way we played around him.

Not to say I wouldn't love him in the team, but I do think he suits Swansea better.

Nah, nah, nah, you've got that all wrong.
We'll play him in the hole behind a single striker. It will be majestic, just you wait.

He suited us just fine when he was with us. Then we played 4-2-3-1 with Gylfi playing off Long. We have to revert to that formation in the PL as a straight 4-4-2 will be suicide against the top PL sides.

One of the many remarkable things about Brian's tenure as manager is that he has been able to make both 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 work. Steve Coppell never managed to find a way of making anything other than 4-4-2 work which was the main reason we got found out in the second PL season.

Why will we be walking into next season playing the same way?

but Swansea can't afford him and are chucking around bids getting easily rejected. We have a much better appreciation of his worth than they do and so know there is no point in bidding small fry.

I would be very very surprised if we aren't monitoring the situation. But I'd only expect to see us bid late on in the window if the big clubs don't seem interested. Because Hoffenheim aren't going to take less than a significant profit on him now and he's likely to go to someone big regardless of whether we bid now or not. So there's no point in us trying to chuck big money around at the moment.

Cypry Gylfi substituted on 88 minutes today - Swansea farewell?

He looked so good on MOTD

He will be snapped up by top 6 club

agreed i said that when he played for us - i said to my friends i wouldnt be surprised if he played for man u, real, or barca one day and they laughed at me - then he went to hoff, from there i expected him to go to bayern or leverkusen but it never happened

now i wouldnt be surprised if he goes to manure, chelsea, newcastle or spurs - forget the money, club size, history, etc - they can all provide euro football now or future

agree with the last sentence - coppell got 4-4-2 working amazingly well, but we kinda played one of two ways 4-4-2 counter attack, 4-4-2 ultra defensive (mure away 2nd season)

Yeah, it's something that pundits haven't really given Brian credit for, the way that he moves the formation around even within matches to try and adapt to different situations; he's obviously got a preference for 4-4-2 with this group of players, but that's only because we've got two very good wingers and two decent holding mids.

I think we can rest assured that Reading will have fully investigated what it would take to bring Gylfi in and if it's doable an offer will be made. If not, c'est la vie and in Brian, Anton/Madski we trust.

Don't matter what Swansea, Man Utd or anyone else can afford either. Different kettle of fishola.

Swans have flown out to Germany to try and seal the move. I really think he can do better than that, but if he's happy, he's happy. :|

Would be gutted if he went to Swans and we didn't try to intercede.

Would like to club to make a statement over Gylfi at some point. If we move and lose out then fair enough but to not try just doesn't make any sense.

^^ This! All day long.

How much money do we get for going up? Plus with the possibility of a richer chairman - even spending £8 mill on a player isn't exactly going to break us - get him, and a centre half as cover for Pearce/Gorkss and we've more or less got our squad for next season I reckon.
