Ian Royal It was being held for future failures to make payments...

I'd guess it's actually being held back for the next time Pompey fail to pay their players. PL won't give a toss about Watford. They aren't PL and nor are they a big foreign club.

The PL will care massively about one of their clubs not paying its debts to another football club at whatever level they are. Scuadamore recognises his league's obligations to the whole football pyramid.

Ian Royal Which moron agreed a sell on fee for a specific amount and not percentage of the fee or profit?? Because that appears to be what the article is saying has happened...

How retarded is that club's transfer management!?

I read it more that the fee was £3 million but staged with £2M still outstanding. I guess if they sell him on the balance becomes due.

Ahh. But if they keep him it'll become due and they don't get £900k?

Saturday at Old Trafford

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/manutd/7063863/Wayne-Rooney-hits-four-as-fans-ignore-Sir-Alex-Fergusons-calls-for-unity.html ..........
Ferguson had previously remained silent on the controversial issue of the Glazers but in his programme notes prior to the 4-0 victory against Hull at Old Trafford, he asked fans to heal the apparent 'split' prompted by recent revelations of the club's financial situation and plans by the Glazers to raise £500 million through a bond to alleviate United's £700 million-plus debt.
Yet with hundreds of fans at Old Trafford adopting the green-and-gold colours of Newton Heath – United's forerunners – as a show of defiance against the Glazers, widespread chants of 'Love United and hate Glazers' and 'We want the Glazers out' rang around the stadium. Similar chants were aired during last Saturday's 3-0 win against Burnley, prompting Ferguson's comments.

That news about John Utaka getting paid £80k a week is truly astonishing; it would mean with a signing on fee and various bonus payments that he will set Pompey back £20M for his 4 Year contract - a truly staggering amount of money for a club with a maximum capacity of less than 20,000.

I guess the only question to be asked is, when will Pompey finally go? I would imagine that the only thread they are barely clinging onto is Premiership survival - when that goes, they will be totally stuffed. Even the £11M parachute payment will barely cover their current outstanding football debts. The hope of survival means that, despite it being the only immediate and obvious short term solution, they will fight tooth and nail to avoid going into administration and taking the 9 point penalty as a result.

It will beinteresting to know if the PL has a similar rule that states that after a certain period of time into a season, a team going into administration will have the points deduction carried forward into the next season if they would have been relegated without that points deduction in thr current season...

Norwich city could be in for a nice legal boost- damages for a completely untrue article in the NotW.

I'm not having Utaka on £80k.

All the press said James was on 80k - 100k and it turned out Stoke refused to pay more the £20k a week to cover half his £40k a week salary.

I think some of these figures are getting silly.

Was mentioned on the FA Cup show on ITV.

Also the fans marched a petition to Fratton Park and when Peter Storrie came to received it, he got asked who he was going to hand it to. Peter Storrie said he didn't know as he's not sure who the owner is.

Storrie ducked out of that one nicely then didn't he? LOL @ Pompey fans if they swallowed that one, he's been the one signing all these players all this time

It's funny, everyone was loving Storrie a couple months ago after his spiel about how he saved the club from administration by getting the Al Fahaj brother in. They've all turned on him now and really looking like one outcome. Knowing my luck, Pompey will be saved :x

To be honest journalist know nothing.

Were Pompey fans not singing there's only one Peter Storie at the start of the season.

TBF, the England Keeper at 40K a week seems reasonable.

Utaka at £80 a week seems steep.

Half of his wages are probably getting paid direct into a Monaco bank account held in some 62 year old gentleman's name...

could it not be a similar story to that of Sol Campbell where by he's on half that but the other half is image rights? Campbell didn't get his image rights and is now suing. :!:

Discussion on Talk Spurt currently about the possibility of Col Gadaffi's son buying Portsmouth.

Just had a Pompey fan on supporting the move saying we shouldn't blame the sins of the father on the son and that it would be a good development...he sounded like a drowning man clinging to a piece of wreckage!!

Let's all laugh at Pompey, let's all laugh at Pompey etc etc

It's Saints fans spreading that rumour. Can't believe Pompey fans have fallen for it.

Portsmouth now claiming their transfer embargo is now lifted- so they can now buy players. Obviously clubs will be more than willing to do credit deals with them.
