I can't see James slacking off to be fair either.

Not only is he one of the best keepers in the country he's one of the best and intelligent pro's about too. What an influence and positive impact he'll have in the dressing room!

Hell of a signing if you ask me, even if it is a bit short term playing wise, I would expect him to be eyeing up Coppell's job already.

Turns8 Nah...nearest club to home that plays in the top 2 divisions of the FL...more like...

Lower wages probably but less money and time spent on the commute...

Where that is the case or not, he is still a top keeper that played for EngLOLand at the world cup a few weeks ago. Vast experience that can only help others at the club.

Don't really see what there is to lol at there

Bristol City have made 3 good signings today. James' signature could well attract others the club as it could be seen as a sign of ambition.

Time will tell.

Alan Partridge
Wycombe Royal The Bristol City fans are a going in to overdrive over this signing but I can't see why. A 40 year old keeper looking for an easy option to finish his career on a 1 year contract wouldn't do it for me.

They've just signed one of the best keepers in the country for the last few years who is still fit as a fiddle and still very capable of playing at the highest level. It's a great signing for them.

Be amazed if City aren't in the top 6 this season.

Disagree. James is a decent keeper, but nothing special, and I don't think Coppell's spent particularly well elsewhere this summer. They'll be in and around 10th place IMO.

Cisse didn't seem a very good signing and James can only get worse as a keeper: he will be costing them a goal a game within a year.

Ideal David James is a great keeper. Great range, good distribution, good positioning, fast, agile..
He's prone to the odd horrid fumble/own goal, but even at 40+ he's still better than ANY other ENGLISH goalkeeper currently playing.

Coppell going up this year..

No idea what you mean by 'great range' but agree he's still probably our best keeper so it's a real coup for City even if he is the wrong side of 40.

It'll be interesting to see if he remains in contention for the England squad now he's out of the top flight.

Good luck to him. Had some nasty injuries (remember seeing his achilles snap in the CL a couple of years ago? ) so he probably deserves one more shot.

Chelsea are hoping to sign Brazil midfielder Ramires from Benfica for £17m, the BBC has learned.

The 23-year-old is undergoing a medical at the Premier League club on Tuesday.

It is thought a four-year deal for Ramires, who has 16 caps for his country, could be concluded by the end of the week.

The transfer has been reportedly complicated by the fact Benfica have a 50% stake in the player with a British-based businessman owning the other 50%.

The right-sided player, whose full name is Ramires Santos do Nascimento, was praised by Dunga after some strong displays in the opening stage of the World Cup for the former Brazil manager's side.

A booking in Brazil's final group game against Portugal ruled him out of his country's quarter-final loss to the Netherlands.

Ramires joined the Brazil set-up in 2009, in time to play in every game of the country's successful defence of their Confederations Cup title.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has been seeking to bolster the Blues midfield following the departure of Joe Cole, Michael Ballack and the return to Brazil of Deco.
