Agreed. Ferguson is a bloody genius.

It'll be absolutely astonishing if they win the league with that lot. And a lot of me hopes they do just to prove that the biggest spenders need a bit more than money to win the PL.

TheMaraudingDog Barca outclassed us. No questions.

But last night United showed no urgency, left players at home and were half arsed.

Would have been much different if it was the champions league that Im sure.

This is the footballing equivalent of getting dumped then mumbling to your mates about how you never wanted to go out with her anyway

Until Fergie gets a decent midfielder or two in, and doesn't continue with playing Evans, then they'll always be there for the taking. Too many average players in the current side and without a real defensive backbone (Keane, Vidic etc etc) to hold a team together results like that won't be too far away.

Still, can anyone really doubt that the tie was a lot bigger for Althetico than it was United?

There are fine margins at that level, and without looking to dismiss Althletico's excellent performances, or to excuse Uniteds weaknesses, the context of the results shouldn't be overlooked.

This has been an odd season though. Apart from City, none of the top teams have looked convincing and City themselves have had poor runs at times. It feels like it should be one of the lower winning points tally's of the last 10 years, but not sure if it will be.

I'm starting to wonder if the defensive frailty that we're seeing across the board is down to the new guidelines/rules taking effect. Something seems different this season, but perhaps it's just that all the top teams have chopped and changed defensive players far too much (apart from City when Kompany/Lescott have been fit).

LOL at thinking a team who play in the same league as Madrid and Barca were treating Man United as a cup final.

Deservedly so.

Great club, all local players and by all accounts the people of Bilbao were very good hosts to United fandom.

Royal Rother Well, I watched one team totally outclass the other. Motivation had nothing to do with that.

Exactly, lol at putting it down to motivation. Who turns up not arsed in front of a crowd of 40,000 supports bouncing around in europe. In the big picture, sure, Man Utd don't care as much but on the night football is played then and there and you go out to win. Bilbao are a team with momentum with 1/2 good individuals and they played as a good technical, functional unit. Man Utd are just a disjointed team on the decline whose quality now is as as low as its been at least in my life time. I don't dislike man Utd I respect them massively and they have produced stunning football over the years, but if they doing invest ehavily in the summer than itll be the same again next year... traditionally smaller clubs going there and outplaying them knocking them out again.

Worst post in hobnobs history.

No, you're just completely blinkered its laughable. How can you refuse to accept your shite compared to what you were years ago? You lost at home to basel who then got thumped by a serious champs league contender 7-1 the other night.

They're Basques who hate Castilians still see Real Madrid as the club of the Spanish Establishment and their fan base is full of separatists. They are also playing against one of the best teams of all time in Barca. But yeah playing against Jonny Evans and Park Ji Sung is far bigger than all of that. Real Madrid and Barcelona = their cup finals.

United are in transition, far too early to say it's a decline though.

Finerain...Im sure teams have thumped palace this season. it means nothing.

3 CL finals out of 4. Would have been 4/4 were it not for Robbens last min volley.

This year was always going to be tougher for us as we bring in players to freshen up the squad. It doesn't mean decline just means change. Fergies been doing it for years.

And if it were not for a De Gea mistake we would not have got knocked out of the group stage and De Gea is already looking twice the keeper he was pre new year.

Exciting times ahead and Im confident of bagging no 20.

That on their day they arguably remain the best team in the country, despite being in transition, is scary really. A decent midfielder and a world-class striker and they might just lock up the next decade of titles too.

Funnily enough, Palace's heaviets defeat is 3-0 and they have only conceded 3 goals in a game twice. Not quite a thumping. And I hope you are not trying to compare the Carling Cup with the Europa Cup or whatever it's called. If Bilbao had taken half of their chances, the aggreate score would have been far higher. I would not be surprised if Fergie decided after the first leg that it was not worth competing and instead, focus on the league. Then, lo and behold, City go out at the same stage. Coincidence?

At least City had the idea of making it look like they were trying, whilst still achieving their ambition of getting out.

all this "City/United lost on purpose" bollox is delusional. Look at the team United put out yesterday.

Or, the team Bilbao put out.

Arf.
