Issue 8 of Taking The Biscuit - Christmas 1989 after Branfoot was axed. Admittedly it was that long ago that the FIFA Soccer hadn't even been invented so the candidate offered his knowledge of Subbuteo and that he'd watched loads of Scottish football on Tapes.

TBF - the reply from Liverpool was better than the Reading effort that was completely devoid of humour and compassion - something that epitomised the relationship between the club and fans around that time.

Interestingly enough, issue 8 not only had a picture of Branfoot gazing into a bucket on the front cover, with the tag line of "An alternative look at Reading Football Club" but called for Nelson Mandela to be given his freedom.

I'd like to think it was partly TTB's influence from Berkshire that finally persuaded South African President FW de Klerk to end Mandela's 27 and a half year incarceration a mere 2 months after publication. It has been said that people heard Nelson humming "Sing for the Royals" as he left Victor-Verster Prison.
