I'd venture it's a different sort of goal. We are 'used' to volleys and spectacular 35 yard strikes. Ladders has a scrapbook of lanky-legged scissor kicks.

But we don't get many solo efforts like the two Neymar scored the other week, because the players aren't as quick and the defenders are better.

Surely Crouch deserves a call up for the Euro's - he's getting game time and is putting in some decent performances and we all know he can score goals.

Great goal, but nowhere near Crouch's effort.

Three :| 's from people who have never score a goal between them.

Crouchs goal was a cracker. But the ball was massively there to be hit. It was a long range speculative smash which was unsavable. A great goal but something that could be repeated at Sunday league level with a bit of luck.

Benzemas was all technique. It was a whipped in cross where he had to time his run and jump and then sidefoot with power into far top corner from a tighter angle. The technique was unbelievable.

I will give you though that Crouchs was more pleasing on the eye.

Benezma's was brilliant technique, but he was unmarked and only 10 yards out, if that.

One of the reasons Crouch had a volley 'to be hit' (as he wasn't facing the goal I'd argue that, but ne'er mind) was because he himself teed it up. And that was after winning the initial long ball from the keeper. Phenomenal goal, better than Benezma's. You can't under-rate how much technique is involved in Crouch's goal either.

tbf Crouch hit his on the turn at an angle - something that 9 times out of 10 would go flying over the bar or wide

Anyway, how bout this strike

Good goal by Benzema but nowhere near as good as Crouch. Crouch had everything of Benzema's plus extra difficulty, further out, brilliant technique and the sheer cheek of it.

Should Crouch's goal have stood? I thought there was a law whereby if the ball went out of play it must bounce before it went into the goal. I could be wrong but I'm sure I remember long throw > header goals ring disallowed for this reason a while back.
