May have been pointless to everyone else, but both teams went for it

Damned good game of football.

Forlan has to be player of the tourney?

Helluva game --JMW'erz has it right I think

Both sides in it for the goals (and we saw some good defensive work, too) and, w/nada to lose but world ranking points, why the hell not

soggy biscuit
Archie's penalty It's normally a lot better than the final tbf.

agreed.

Mainly because it's a no pressure game with some of the worlds best players.

Archie's penalty Happy for Mueller. Has to be young player of the tournament. Great game so far, good goal from Cavani. Shame Suarez's getting booed. Klose's missing because of flu, must be ill as it's his last chance to break Klose's record.

I'm above picking up the obvious mis-spell but I reckon he might still have an outside chance in the next one. If he's still playing in teh Bundesliga, Germany have no other strikers coming through.

Kiesling was shit-hot at Under 21 and he's neat and tidy but he really is no world class centre forward, is he?
The other options in this world cup were that Brazilian (headless chicken) and Mario Gomez.

Maybe, but I like the third place play off. I wouldn't be upset if it was scrapped, but I don't see any reason to.

cmonurz The World Club Championship always seems a colossal waste of time to me. I couldn't even tell you who the current holders are. And has there been a final in recent memory that isn't the European Champions vs the Copa Liberatadores winners?

No*, but then again they didn't let anyone else take part until 2005, so it would have been hard for anyone else to make the final.

* there was FIFA's first effort at creating a proper club world championship in 2000, which was won by Corinthians of Brazil, and they were only there by invitation, not through winning anything.

The South Americans do take it very seriously, as it's their chance to get one over the "arrogant" Europeans who apparently believe the Champions League to be the true world championship.

In 2009, Germany won the U-21, U-19 and the U-17 European Championships - there just might be someone in there. A year ago, no one had ever heard of Müller, for example. I would be optimistic.

Neuer, Boateng, and Ozil all played in the U21 final in which they battered England 4-0.

Sandro Wagner scored twice in that match and is now at Werder Bremen with Ozil. No idea how good he is.
