The scary thing is that the Huddersfield fans are celebrating the decision.

HT press release seems to confirm that Clarke was sacked! Mark Lillis is to take over as caretaker. Certainly a learning experience for Sean Morrison.

LOADS of draws, 1 man team, massive budget and nothing to show for it. Those are the harsh facts.

i am shocked by this still naturally and I do think it's a bit mental but the bloke is more overr8d than Fat Frank.

Fair enough, but they're 4th in the league, and the 3 teams above them have all been in the Premiership in the last 12 years.

And surely he should be credited for Rhodes' emergence given that he was deemed not good enough by Ipswich only a couple of years ago.

Football's gone mad if you can sack a guy given those circumstances, and personally I hope Clark goes ahead with an unfair dismissal lawsuit and screws them big time. Especially as he was sacked over a 2 minute phone call.

How do you get unfairly dismissed as a football manager? I can only think of that being possible if they alleged some sort of gross misconduct that you disputed

Like I said I still find it strange but he's a funny character. Not likeable and whilst that's not the be all and end all it bides you time sometimes. He's a sort of person i can see clashing with people, fans, players, board. He's spent a lot of money for that level, despite all the 'unbeaten run' stuff they still haven't won promotion. you'd have thought going unbeaten for 40 odd games you'd be either up or like Charlton top by miles but they draw loads.

i think the majority of their fan reaction is they are happy about this, I'm not that surprised to be honest.

Sounds a bit like our Brendan in that respect I suppose. Fans would have been a lot more forgiving during his first few months had he shown a bit more humility.

I'd have thought getting dismissed for poor performance when your team is 4th in the league could be deemed as unfair.

I have no idea, it was on the BBC website that Clark was considering it

That was where I saw it originally too. we all know that football is mental and if the board think they should be higher than 4th then it's fair, espexially as he'll get a load of money off of them

Was rather hoping you'd be on here calling for Ling's head today. Sadly, Cheltenham managed to put in an even more inept display against the Gulls last night than they did against Hereford at the weekend. The natives were extremely restless in the Skip by the end last night - I don't think it'll be too long before they want Yates's head on a pole.

Fail. Epic FAIL!!! Fans would have been more forgiving had the results and performances been so much better than they were. His BS was purely his way of covering up the squad's deficiences.

Disagree.

Though we weren't fantastic by any means under Rodgers things were starting to pick up. He was disliked by most of the supporters (IMO) not because of how the team was playing, but because of his arrogant interviews, big watch, and constant name-dropping.

Indeed he was sacked not because of results, but because of him being a complete prick.

That would be mental, Cheltenham and Torquay should be about 20th and 21st in the league. In terms of football that was the 2nd worst I've seen us play this year but we've won both of those games 1-0. So happy days.

Met him have you? He is actually a thoroughly decent and likeable bloke and your comment suggests you are a bit of a prick.

Lesson learnt for me & many others I guess. Don't judge how a football club is going by league position and the odd minor headline. Their fans couldn't be happier that he is gone.

Indeed, an appalling game. Luckily Crawley have been on a similar run so that's rather saved our bacon. We have some eminently winnable games coming up, so should get back on track. I can't help thinking it'll be the play-offs for the Robins, though.

Why was he so unpopular with some fans?

Like you I had no idea... (and still don't in my case.)

No but I know people inside the club who he managed to completely alienate, hence why they were all so eager to get shot of him. I believe Dirk can corroborate this particular 'story'.

I have however met his son, and if he is anything like his old man then I have no problem in believing Brendan to be an arrogant tit. (this is the same Anton Rodgers who was arrested for rape BTW)

But yeah, I am a bit of a prick so you got that part right.
