Watched an uninspiring 0-0 draw between Didcot Town and Bridgwater on Saturday in the FAT.

FoC - re: Blackfield & Langley. What is parking like? Any pubs nearby? And do they sell beer in the ground (expecting to be disappointed here)?

... can't say much about local pubs - don't usually get anywhere in time to have too big a nose around first - had one of my lads with me and I think it was a pre-season evening friendly.

You could try whatpub.com and search around Holbury or Blackfield?

From my ailing and scant memory OK Clubhouse of the Sports Leisure facility-type - fair amount of parking outside the front of the Sports Centre too - and I don't think it's too built-up an area, so street parking nearby should still be OK.

...here's the bit lifted from my own 'Where Did You Go' post on NLM

Directions : bottom of the M271 right onto A35 over the Test bridge, then left down the A326 -> Hythe/Fawley. After approx 10 miles passing Fawley Oil refineries on the left and Fawley FC (Waterside S&SC) on the right, leave the A326 and head due south onto 'Long Copse' - well signed for Gang Warily Rec Centre - one (yellow ish) sign for B&L FC at Newlands Rd - turn left and the Recreation centre is immediately visible on the left - Pitch is behind the Centre.

Facilities: Plenty of parking at the front of the Centre. Entrance to pitch is round and down behind the left hand side of the building between the Sports Bar (was open) and the 6-a side pitches/Skatebd park.
Pitchside Tea-Bar was open too - Hot/Cold drinks Burgers, sausages and (big) Chips.
Fenced pitch surround - medium sized seated stand - some other cover on the far side - by the dugouts.

...bear in mind that was from 5 years ago. A more recent post - indeed the chap I quoted in my earlier post re Ferries and Buses from Soton, was here in January and the clubhouse/Sports Bar only had bottled ales at that time?

... fair number of 'local' NL games survived the deluge this PM/ evening - indeed only a Aldershot Cup game Baddy Lea v Fleet Spurs (at Ash Utd FC) and CCL Prem game Farnham v Westfield, were postponed due to the weather.

In the B&B Senior Cup Hungerford L1-3 last night (Mon) to Aylesbury - tonight the 'Freds' (Wantage) edged (3-2) past Chalfont St Peter aet

In the lesser B&B Senior Trophy 1st round Ascot bt Wok & Emm 4-0

In the FA Trophy replay Diddy came back from Bridgwater with a 3-1 win - now travel to Molesey in the next round on the 31st Oct.

Southern Premier had a few matches - Sluff walloped Dorchester 4-1 and Chesham W3-0 v Redditch.

There were three games played in the CCL Premier: Bedfont Sports lost 2-3 to AFC Hayes - Chess. & Hook continued their impressive start back at this level with a 4-2 win over RPV ... and last but by no means etc. Windsor took a real battering 0-6 at Horley - another side much improved following their flirtation with relegation last season.

Finally I sloshed may way along the A329(M) to watch a very soggy and bedraggled 'Robins' flap out of the FA Vase in a replay, at home to lower placed Alton Town from the Wessex One.
Bracknell paid for missing numerous presentable chances playing 'down the slope' at Larges first half - The 'Brewers' came back strongly 2nd half and deservedly progress to a trip to Haywards Heath, also on the 31st Oct

Saw Cheltenham v Braintree last night. Empty seats and shit atmosphere, just like the mad stad :D

In fairness it was alright and the crowd picked up in the second half. Chelt moved top with a 1-1 draw, equalising shortly after Braintree scored in the 90th min. Missed so many chances though and were denied a stone wall penalty at the end - which pissed me off even more as at HT (0-0) I put on a cheeky Cheltenham win BTTS @ 9/1. Ah well. With the squad they have, including one of ours in young CB Rob Dickie, and Gary Johnson as manager, they have to be pretty much favourites to bounce back straight away.

Didn't go last night (Horley is just too far down the M25 on a wet Tuesday evening) but I can only think / hope that Saturday's Vase game where we looked absolutely shattered at 120 mins took its toll...

Royal Rother They weren't promises, just ambitions.

Always dependent on an investor / partner and a lease. (Not necessarily in that order.)

At the time, Stott was confident he could push the notoriously slow Crown into granting the lease within a matter of months.

Reading between the lines, having spent thousands on legal fees and huge amounts of his own time and energy trying to achieve just that, at the same time he decided to do away with the playing budget he also decided it was not worth spending anymore money on badgering The Crown, particularly as the main potential investor had fallen into financial difficulties.

Obviously without a lease no investment / development could be achieved anyway.

In reality he had achieved what he really set out to do and that was ensure football continued in Windsor at Stag Meadow - the rest could just follow on as and when...

That there is football in Windsor at all is better than not. There are grumblings but most of these are aimed at one of the coaches. One of our better players has decided to jack it in and go back to park football on a Saturday as he does not want his daughter to listen to one of the coaches continually shouting at her dad. Crowds are dropping, regulars are no longer regular and the quality of the local journalism is akin to the Daily Mail. Anyway, I can't be arsed to travel round the M25 today to go to Colliers Wood and will venture to East Thurrock v Staines for something more local (30 minutes away).

Here's what about today in NL - 3rd Qualifying Round of FA Cup - which of course neatly f£cks up a significant part of the scheduled "NON-LEAGUE DAY" .... in terms of disrupted League Fixture lists.
Also inhibits the potential for arranging special offers to attract more crowds i.e. not as many free entry to other ST holders etc as there might have been. Indeed higher up the pyramid there could actually have been some appeal for the usual FL/Premier$hit followers - given the right promotions/publicity - of which I can't say I've noticed that much.....

(Though I understand there's "Free Beer" @ Dover Athletic ... 1 per fan - not available to 'visiting/away' fans - only Fosters !! ... some attraction :roll: ]

... got a few ideas about this PM - will let youngest choose when he comes back from School Rugby - can't go too far as we need to be back to keep an eye on middle-one who hasn't been too well of late. On offer for him to choose from, is a couple of FA Cup games - though they'd both involve a bit of a dash down the M3 (Petersfield or Blackfield) which was a bit 'Donald' last time I headed that way.
Also a set of ties in the Berks/Bucks Intermediate - though that's several layers of Anorak too low for posting on here :mrgreen:
... the link is here - if anyone's inclined that far:

Has to be petersfield- sounds a classic tie. Easy to get to with various routes and a nice tight ground. Got to love, love lane.

Colliers Wood 2-3 Windsor

3-0 HT, then backs to the wall. Not a deliberate tactic, just holding on for dear life, same as last Saturday, with more heroics from our keeper.

Another entertaining afternoon's footie but Phew!

...youngest lad opted for the Portway this PM - think he may have been rushed into making a choice by his dear Mother, :roll: who was picking up some (non-existent) vibes from me, about him spending an inordinate amount of time, fiddling about after his Rugby in the morning. Doubt it would have been that high on my list of the choices I gave him - however.

As it transpired we got there fairly easily - apart from the efforts of the *&^%ing roadworks in 'stoke - and witnessed an exciting tussle:

Andover Town 2-2 AFC Portchester - fairly impressive crowd for a meeting between 2nd & 3rd in the Wessex Prem - sure it was well into three figures - lots of kids in ATFC kit - which I assume was a local promotion for NL day. Home side grabbed a point with a 94' leveller.

... full Review tomorrow but no fairy tales for the lower ranked clubs - Hartley W went down 2-3 at Eastbourne Boro from three steps above them; Magpies edged past B&L 1-0 at Gang Warily & Petersfield lost by the same score at home to StAlebuns.

Diddy progress as expected 4-1 v Eastbourne Town- Chesham rolled past Nor Lye 2-0 - Basingstoke showed better form than in the League with a 4-2 romp v Chelmsford.

Good chance for Didcot to make the 4th Round there, shame Reading are at Fulham on 4Q day as there are some attractive games here. Upset at York Road perhaps or could Harry Cardwell get a chance to make something magic for Woking.... don't the BBC actually get properly interested at this stage as well?

... here's the revised southern half of the FA Cup 4th Round Draw (ties due w/e 24th Oct)

FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round
Brackley Town v Bamber Bridge
Whitehawk v Poole Town
Maidenhead United v Woking
Basingstoke Town v Torquay United
Grays Athletic v Welling United
Boreham Wood v AFC Hornchurch
Wealdstone v Bognor Regis Town
Didcot Town v Brentwood Town
Eastbourne Borough v Dover Athletic
Chesham United v Enfield Town
Staines Town v Gloucester City
Aldershot Town v Sutton United
Bromley v Eastleigh
Margate v Forest Green Rovers
Braintree Town v Harlow Town
Havant and Waterlooville v Cheltenham Town
Chippenham Town v Maidstone United
St Albans City v Weston Super Mare

...sadly Hoddesdon bowed out last night @ Brentwood who now come to Diddy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... elsewhere in a night of few local league games (plenty of County and league Cup matches on)
Woking grabbed a late point at home to Torquay - the Sh!ts continue their good run with a 1-0 win at Boreham Wood. Also in the National - National league Eastleigh bt FGR 3-2 and Halifax shipped another 7 (their 2nd hammering of similar margin in four games) this time at Grimsby.
I trekked down to deepest Frimley Green and watched them labour but eventually despatch the Fizzers (Sandhurst) 4-1 - in the CCL Div One. Game drifted for long periods but woke up 2nd half when the visitors suddenly forgot how to defend and employed an offside trap as effective as ..... something not very effective at all! :mrgreen:
