... just a quick midweek update:

Hungerford eased past Banbury 3-0 away in their FA Trophy replay tonight; Farnborough exited the same competition, 4-5 on pens (2-2 aet) at home to Bideford on Monday, a mere 115 turned up to watch.

In the Southern League games played tonight Fleet picked up three points, beating 2-1 Godalming at Calthrop Pk in One Central ; in S&W section North Leigh kept up the pressure on leaders Cinderford with a vital 2-0 win at 4th placed Shortwood. Winchester City sit 3rd after a big 4-1 win at Burnham on Monday evening .

In the Vase replay Ashford Town were dumped out in their replay 3-1 at Short Lane by Kidlington - leaving Hartley Wintney (Windsor's next Vase opponents) to grab top spot in the ComCo Premier league with a 4-0 thumping of Spelthorne. HW now 11 wins from 11.

In the Hellenic there were no League games scheduled but some big Cup defeats for Bracknell up at Holmer Gn in the B&B Trophy and Highmoor/IBIS humbled 4-1 at Div One side Carterton in the Floodlit Cup.
Thatcham progressed in the same competition with a 4-1 win at Nomads.

Small point but seeing as you are an anorak and I suspectuncorrected errors might cause you great distress :wink: thought I'd correct you on the Hartley Wintney scoreline - they actually won 4-1 last night....

... quite right too - I stand corrected (well, slumped slightly)

No excuses - though it was a late posting following a 'through the ringer' evening at The M'stad.

...however looking back at my source (Full-Time.thefa.com) for the CCL results last night - I now see at least one result has been changed - originally it was showing Sutton Common Rovers WINNING 0-10 {TEN} at Woking in a County Cup game (Surrey Senior) - I'd assumed the Cards had put out their kids - but now the score has been reversed showing a 10-0 win for the Kingfield outfit. :?

{straw clutching} :mrgreen:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just another few snippets :
Poor though RTFC's start has been so far ('nul points' from 8 league games) - they are still some way behind Bashley P14 L14 in the 'rock bottom' stakes and even they are two games 'better off' than New Mills, from just beyond the 'peakier' bits of outer Mancshire. originally rose up out of the Cheshire leagues but are actually just over the border in Derbyshire?
They are without a point in 16 games in the Northern Premier League Division One North - though they have a better GD than Bashley.
Top of that league are resurgent Northwich Victoria with 12 wins and 1 loss; currently groundsharing with the other 'major' club in the town : Witton Albion.
... both tonight's scheduled 'local' games were postponed - Hellenic Floodlit tie between Kidlington & Flackwell because of the home sides' Vase replay on Tuesday - and Epsom Ath v Dorking due to Chess 'n Hook's Chalky Lane being waterlogged.
.. and finally ..... Flackwell's free-scoring ex-Ascot & Marlow marksman Jon Bennett has reportedly signed for 'Heathens' rival club Thatcham Town.
- no idea where I'm going. Youngest has been a bit sickly this week and has a party to go to - so I'm 'solo' but there aren't many 'new' ones close by, unless I delve into the nether regions 8) - risky as late call offs may be more prevalent. Might have gone TVL again this w/e but there's a widespread referees strike (see Chronic article below) that's wiped out nearly all the fixtures this PM! :shock:
There's zero chance the Farnham game will be on.
The ref could have stayed in his armchair to call it iff.
Somebody spits on that pitch and they get the forks out.
King's Lynn Town 2-1 Slough Town
SOUTH1C
Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-0 Aylesbury United
Chalfont St Peter 1-1 Bedford Town
SOUTH1S&W
Bishops Cleeve 2-0 Wantage Town - another poor result for managerless Freds at fellow strugglers
Burnham 5-1 Bashley
- Got to this with plenty of time to spare (for me) ; pitch slightly soggy but seems to dry better these days.
Even a fairly poor Burnham were able to despatch a hapless Bash – who took a surprise lead on 9’ – much to the delight of their travelling gang (approx 12 on their coach) and made a fair amount of noise throughout. Their goal was only their 6th in league football this season; their last away league win was on 20th September 2014 at Taunton - their previous HOME win was further back on 11th February 2014 v Chippenham and was their only home win of that season. Once Blues got a fairly soft penalty having trailed for only 10’, Bash somewhat caved in and demonstrated only too clearly, why they must surely be Wessex-bound (or worse) next season – a reprieve having conceded 148 goals last season and not many less the one before was possibly ill-judged. They are conceding at a rate that suggests they may surpass these levels by some considerable margin. (66 in 15 so far)
Larkhall Athletic 1-4 Winchester City
CCLP
Bedfont Sports 2-1 Guildford CityCity recent and slightly startling upturn, hits the buffers at lowly Sports
Chertsey Town 0-0 Sutton Common Rovers
Colliers Wood United 5-1 AFC Hayes
Epsom & Ewell 1-0 Chessington & Hook United
Hanworth Villa 1-3 Hartley WintneyHW maintain 100% and stretch their lead to 3 pts with 3 games still in hand of Ashford – E&E in 3rd are keeping in close touch however and have only played 1 game more than ‘The Row’ – Camberley whose game was off just over the other side of the A331, at rock-bottom and well adrift Cove, sit 4th behind the ‘Salts’ on GD.
CCL1
Abbey Rangers 2-3 Cobham
CB Hounslow United 6-0 Staines Lammas
Worcester Park 2-1 Dorking
HELLP
Kidlington 5-0 Binfield - not the result nor the performance Moles would have wanted, in their chase after the leading pack - were 1 down at H/T but shipped four more in the last 1/2 hr to slip to their heaviest defeat so far in 15-16.
HELL Challenge Cup R2
Penn & Tylers Green 0-2 Ascot United
Holyport 1-3 Oxford City Nomads
Thame United 2-0 Easington Sports
Finchampstead 2-1 Fairford Town
Cirencester Town Dev' 1-0 Letcombe
WESSP
Fawley 2-2 Whitchurch United
Absolute :shock: :o at the death at Vale Park yesterday. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised, Maidenhead score a lot of late goals, their fitness is good and they pinned Vale back in the last 10 minutes having worked so hard before that to stay in the game. The celebrations for Mulley's goal will live long in the memory; the scorer, his 10 team mates and the full complement of subs ran the full length of Vale Park to celebrate long and hard with the 379 travelling fans. If you are sick and tired of paying a fair whack to watch a malfunctioning team of mercenaries at Reading, I would urge you to make the short journey to York Road instead to watch a talented eam full of character and obtaining some good results at a mere fraction of the cost.
Congrats and commiserations to Didcot and Basingstoke on their respective respectable efforts.
Or to the far more scenic (and cheaper) version of non league football on show at Stag Meadow in Windsor where nobody gets paid a penny. 8)
(We're not very good this season though. That said all 30 (thirty) of us behind the goal celebrated the last minute FA Vase winner last Saturday with the players as if it was the FA Cup Final...!)
:wink:
PS Delighted for Maidenhead...!!
Decided to head down to Wealdstone v Colchester after my game was cancelled this weekend as result of the referee's strike.
Haven't been to a non-league ground for a while now and it made me wonder why everyone loves following clubs who play in soulless grounds with no atmosphere and a bunch of players who appeal for anything under the sun.
Turned up 5 minutes before KO and managed to buy a ticket no problems, no segreggation between home and away fans other than a few stewards dotted about the place.
:shock: at Marvin Sordell playing for Colchester after being in the PL last year.
Rarely get to RFC these days, with the prices and the fact I live in the New Forest. Fancy watching some non league footie so may give Salisbury a go.
RoyalJames101 Decided to head down to Wealdstone v Colchester after my game was cancelled this weekend as result of the referee's strike.
Haven't been to a non-league ground for a while now and it made me wonder why everyone loves following clubs who play in soulless grounds with no atmosphere and a bunch of players who appeal for anything under the sun.
Turned up 5 minutes before KO and managed to buy a ticket no problems, no segreggation between home and away fans other than a few stewards dotted about the place.
:shock: at Marvin Sordell playing for Colchester after being in the PL last year.
Not everyone does, that's kind of the point really - but the appealing bit... where do you think they learned that stupid habit from?
If your looking for 'atmosphere' at non league crowds you'll be hard pressed. Community is a more apt word.
Suspect Maidenhead will be on next wednesday live on bt as Ireland 2nd leg is on tv on the monday followed by England on the tuesday. Great celebration for the goal. Not been in maidenhead for years. Is the honey pot still going?!
Royal Bison Rarely get to RFC these days, with the prices and the fact I live in the New Forest. Fancy watching some non league footie so may give Salisbury a go.
If you're in the New Forest would recommend Brockenhurst. Smashing little club.
+1 - but watch out for the Donkeys in the Car Park :twisted:
Also a couple of levels below the 'Badgers' - slap bang in the middle of the Forest are Lyndhurst from the Hants Senior League Div One - so pretty hardcore anorak fare......
...actually plenty of burgeoning clubs in and around the New Forest to pick from - want goals ? ...go and watch Bashley- they ship dozens and need the support :?
- and they may well be hosting a few 'local' sides to round here: - for starters they're due to play free-scoring North Leigh THIS Saturday (14th Nov)
a few others on their fixture list ...
Didcot 5th Dec
... next year ...
AFC Totton (local derby) 20th Feb
Winchester City 28th Mar
Marlow 2nd Apr
Burnham 16th Apr
- two more to choose from just beyond them in and around Lymington - (Town and New Milton)
- down the eastern side of the Forest along the A326 are a string of Wessex clubs - Fawley , Hythe & Dibden (new ground) and Blackfield & Langley
- and up to the North and West you have the aforementioned AFC Totton and their little neighbours Totton & Eling -
literally - both grounds built adjacent as new, a couple of years back - complex nr Cadnam, set along the A336 just a short drive from the end of the M27.
- further west along the A31 you can easily get to Verwood, Ringwood & further on nr the airport Christchurch; beyond that Wimborne and Bournemouth - the Poppies NOT the Cherries.
Thanks guys, will take a look. Only suggested Salisbury as i'm the other side of the forest, so Salisbury is probably slightly closer than Brockenhurst, will take in a few though and see which do the best pies!
Maidenhead cup game on a thursday night due to tv. 33 grand from those nice chaps at BT and a 1000+ crowd i suspect. Not to be sniffed at.
