Is the final really on a Saturday (22nd) or have the BBC got it wrong?

How come not Wednesday?

It is indeed next Saturday, TBM - and will be on Saturday nights for the foreseeable future. Hence why the FA have murked themselves for next season as the Championship playoff final (which is part of a 20 year, 100 match deal between the FA and FL) was also scheduled for Saturday 22nd May

The reason for the move to a Saturday? UEFA want to make the CL final a more family friendly occasion

It's all a lot do with the release times before the World Cup. Forget what the period of time required by FIFA to release players before the WC starts, but I think 22nd May is the last day for it.

The assumption was made that it was much more likely that the L1 & L2 teams wouldn't have WC players involved, so they didn't bother to bring those forward.

Bigger global audience guaranteed by the move to Saturday --f'rinstance, it'll be live on regular network TeeVee here for the first time ever (Fox in particular; no need even for a basic cable subscription to watch this 'un while it happens)

Most people can get their eyes in front of a screen for a Saturday KO scheduled for 2:45 PM Noo Yawk time and 11:45 AM on the west coast

Of a Wednesday, not so much

What on earth are the average couch potato family going to do when they can't watch the terrible Britain's Got Talent next weekend.

In theory they could repeat this year - CCC on the 21st with L1 and L2 the days after the CL final or any combination you like.
