... few other scores to round-up from midweek - mostly Cup ties - before the Preview of this Saturday (skip to below if needs be) - but be warned - AGAIN :| - vast amounts of wet stuff forecast for later tonight and throughout tomorrow AM so expect swathes of P'Ponements locally.

Southern Premier
Chesham 5-1 Dunstable Town
Southern 1 S&W
Bashley 0-4 Supermarine
Marlow 3-2 North Leigh - good win for Marlow over high flying Nor Lye - home side led 2-0 on 25', pegged back just before H/T ,reportedly visitors then gained the upper hand and levelled on 70' ish - only for Blues to grab winner in injury time.
Wantage Town 0-0 Didcot Town

Isthmian Premier
Hampton & Richmond 3-1 Farnborough
Staines Town 1-3 Dulwich Hamlet

CCL Premier
Cove 0-1 Camberley Town - was at this - perishin' cold - crowd of about 70 odd - Cove fought hard but were ultimately out-powered by the visitors brutally effective set-piece routines. Ex-Windsor ace Bob Lazarczuk missed a penalty to seal the win late 2nd half - actually was a very good save - one of a string the home keeper managed throughout a very one-sided one-nil. In truth Cove rarely threatened Camberley's goal.

Epson & E 3-0 Redhill
Horley 4-1 Westfield
RPV 3-1 Windsor
{Wed} CWU 1-1 Bedfont Sports

Wessex One
Tadley Calleva 3-0 AFC Stoneham

...as stated plenty of County Cup games played: Binfield and Flackwell join Holmer Gn & Newport Pagnell in the B&B Trophy S-Fs with wins against upper Hellenic Premier rivals Ascot and Thatcham respectively.
In the Oxon Senior Cup: City and United both progressed to the last four with wins against Banbury and Ardley Utd and Kidlington won their Q-F 1-0 @ Thame.
The last remaining Q-F will be between Carterton from Hellenic One West and North Leigh - doesn't appear to have a date set for this yet.

..finally in the Hants Senior Cup this midweek : three semi-final places were settled by wins for Fleet Town , Winchester and Havant & Waterlooville. The outstanding Q-F tie, to be played at the Camrose, I think, is Basingstoke Town v Totton & Eling or Horndean? The two Wessex clubs are due to play their tie on Thursday 11th Feb.

Yep FOC, I've been saying for most of the season that we are a very average outfit at the moment.

Yesterday was poor again. We have not a single player with flair, no pace (anywhere) and one or two who look like they can't really be arsed. I spoke briefly with the manager at HT yesterday and it's fair to say that he was not a happy man.

Windsor have a friendly at Staines on Monday night which gives the management an opportunity to look at some new players. Apparently.

Oh, should mention a talking point in the game was that it ended 10 v 9 after a bit of a brawl (nothing much more than extended game of handbags really) ended up with the ref wandering around wondering what to do. The Windsor fans kept telling him who he needed to send off from Chertsey - "it's the No 4, you idiot - the No 4...!" who actually was a bit of a laugh so we didn't mind him staying on as there was no way we were going to get anything from the game that was for bloody sure. Having consulted both linesmen the ref looked like he was going to come and ask us our opinion at one point!

I can see some big changes happening in the summer, hopefully not in the management.

Ah yes, the other talking point was the behaviour of the Chertsey fans - a number behind our goal appeared to be giving our keeper / captain a right lot of stick. He's hardly a shrinking violet so doubt that would have troubled him over much but towards the end of the 1st half he really went for them, finger pointing in a very aggressive manner. It seems there may have been some racist anti-Muslim abuse aimed at 2 of our players.

It was reported to the referee at half time who said he would deal with it. Quite what that meant / involved I don't know but there didn't seem to be any repeat in the 2nd half.

Tell you what Rother, Tony Thompson can feck right off. Too many players couldn't be arsed. The club has not applied for promotion this season so there is nothing left to play for. Out of the cups and all the life of a rotting corpse.

Windsor is just a glorified youth/reserve side now. The club's aim is just to keep ticking over not making a loss. I absolutely get why they are doing that but apart from loyalty of some diehards i see no reason why anyone would go and pay to watch. I don't have any solution to as what can be done but its always going to be a changingl team with high and low points.

FoC, as somebody who's presumably watched a fair amount of both leagues over the last couple of seasons, how do you rate the Hellenic and CCL against each other?

..mmm no easy/short answer to this really - its been chewed over a bit on this thread a few times these past few seasons.

On field - currently the CCLP has some very strong clubs at it's upper-end but my personal view is that over a long period of watching both leagues, a strong Hellenic outfit is generally more likely to prevail.

They only usually meet each other in the Vase or County Cups and latter is taken with varying degrees of seriousness by both leagues' reps each season.

Another benchmark could be set around how many ex-Hellenic/CCL clubs are thriving and at what level have they reached, in the upper NL Pyramid and conversely how many have come back down after promotion, in the last 10 yrs

There's little to choose between the mid-table clubs downwards.

(Besides I'm losing the will to go on - as currently the editor on here and my Web browser detest each other and I have to retype about every third &^%$ing character!!) :evil: :evil: :evil:

From a quick scan of Cup results over the last 5 years it appears to me that Windsor have won 8 and lost 6 against current Hellenic League clubs fwiw.

Royal Rother From a quick scan of Cup results over the last 5 years it appears to me that Windsor have won 8 and lost 6 against current Hellenic League clubs fwiw.

...using my arbitrary dismissal of the County Cup for reasons given above 8) .... if you look at Windsor's recent FA Vase and FA Cup record it looks a bit like this:

FA Cup (4 entries since 12-13)

vs Hellenic clubs W3 L1
- other three defeats were against 2 x Southern League after progressing and one x Spartan South Mids

FA Vase (5 entries in the same period)
vs Hellenic clubs W4 L3
- other two eliminations by CCL club (Hartley W) and Kent (Whyteleafe)

...so in that case quite a favourable record comparatively - and looking at Camberley's results, using the same criteria in the same period, they too are on the credit side when it comes to wins/losses involving ties vs Hellenic clubs.

However I'd like to add that I regard Windsor as somewhat of an atypical CCL club i.e. to date they have only operated in that league below STEP04 in the pyramid's lifetime, since their reformation/re-birth in 11-12 season..... if that makes any sense?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
few NL scores locally tonight - still plenty of call offs due to the poor weather earlier this week:
NATS
Hayes & Yeading 4-4 Eastbourne Borough
SOUTHP
Chesham Utd 1-1 Biggleswade Town -
Hungerford's H game vs Paulton last night (Monday) was postponed
SOUTH1C
Burnham 0-3 Yate Town - was at this - (wish I'd chosen York Rd now :roll: - with money off for showing an RFC ST I'd have got in for the same price) - 'Blues' were woeful - now have David Tuttle in charge at The Gore - got a very big job on his hands and on tonight's showing they are following Bashley out of the Southern League by some distance.
Bashley themselves face the daunting prospect of a trip to the Denplan tomorrow night Wednesday (weather permitting) to take on Winchester City :? - might not be for the faint-hearted or those who are prone to lose count - could be odds on Bentley to notch a fair number too!
CCLP
Camberley Town 1-1 Epsom & E
Cove 0-3 Hanworth Villa
Hartley Wintney 4-2 Chertsey Town
Knaphill 4-2 Ashford Town - real stunner here - defeat for 'Ashtrees' lets Hartley take over top spot again on GD
.... AND would have been my first choice, had it not been for the major twin obstacles of a 19:30 KO (I needed to take middle-one to Cub Scouts in S 'ding at 18:45 ish) AND f£(&ing roadworks down the bottom of the Basingstoke Rd; meant I queued for about 10' just to get past Lidl/Holiday Inn roundabout and on to the M4. Soon decided I had a better chance of making KO at Burnham or Maidenhead.
HELLENIC - no league games tonight (Nomads host Thame tomorrow) but where games could be played, there were wins for Ascot at Carterton in the Floodlit Cup Q-F; Milton Utd and Woodley both progressed in the Supplementary (Losers) Cup.
Bit more CCL news - Knaphill ended with 9 against Ashford's 10 last night but even then the player who deserved to get a red escaped unnoticed... sounds like same ref Windsor had in Saturday.
Hanworth player taken to hospital with poss double leg break.
Interesting.
I've not watched a lot of CCL but just from the few names I see playing I got the impression that the Hellenic was probably a little bit stronger. That's probably just because I know of more of the names in the Hellenic though, not that they're actually better.
Having watched Winchester City in the Wessex last season ( same level as CCL/Hellenic I believe) and this season in the Southern League South and West, there doesn't seem to be any gulf in class between the two levels. Many clubs can't handle the step up due to ground grading and a lot of the players prefer staying down to avoid travel demands that are impossible for guys with "proper jobs" to hold down, so Wessex/CCL/Hellenic leagues offer a high standard of football for their level, it seems to me.
I would have thought FA trophy/FA Cup qualifying games between sides at that level would be the best guide to compare the leagues. Does FoC have ant stats on that, just out of curiosity?
Oh, and I missed Winch's game tonight for various reasons. 4-0 to us at the time of writing. Poor, given we are playing Bashley, who are the exception that proves the rule discussed above.
...here's today's local NL matches - some being called off as I post, as mid-AM inspections survey what this latest lot of drizzle has brought. Platypuss Reading Town RIP :shock:
Indeed much as expected new owners, apparently Highmoor IBIS, to move in NEXT season.
Owners reportedly do not want RTFC to fulfill the season and have effectively folded the club.
Possibly inevitable once they lost the security contract for the Festival.
Nor quite sure where this leaves Woodley Utd ... believe they will play out their season @ Scours.
RTFC scratched from their cup tie @ Stokenchurch this PM
... sad times for the club.
