I remember going to a Windsor match a few years back.

Before the game, I was having a beer, and a couple of tables away was a group of Windsor fans talking about club funds, what they could do to get more money into the club, to encourage them to use the facilities more etc.

I did feel like asking why, if they were so determined to put money into the club, they were drinking in the pub over the road rather than in the club bar?

Not sure which thread this is best placed in, this one, the referees one or footballer gets arrested..

Anyway, I read a report today of a referee assault in Hellenic Div 2 where a player got "sent off then proceeded to get the ref in a headlock punching and possible biting him."

...something on this from the 'nether regions of the Anorak' here: .... :?

... reportedly Purton 'Stiffs' were predominantly ex-Beversbrook FC, until the chap running them packed it all in. They were by some accounts a particularly 'feisty' group of individuals that molested the Wilts leagues for a few years until 13/14 - entering the Hellenic for one year under their 'proper' name, taking a year out somewhere - then returning this year, re-branded behind the respectability of the Purton tag.
It would also appear they have not endeared themselves to Hellenic officialdom in their first season in Div Two.

Odd as Beversbrook itself is down near Calne - there's some talk that Calne FC's Bremhill Way is likely to give way to a brand shiny new facility at Beversbrook Sports Centre - which is also currently where the 'Sw!ne' train.

Windsor 4-0 RPV

1st half was awful stuff from both teams with Windsor contriving to make even straightforward 5 yard passes look look like mission impossible. We then sneaked a goal in the 45th (pass of the season from Barry Dunbar, swinging his left peg for a shot which somehow span behind him and to the side perfectly into the path of DiGiuseppe who drove it hard and low into the bottom corner.

2nd half significantly better though still not great, and with our keeper Dennison in brilliant form we somehow managed to run out flattering 4-0 winners.

I'll take that.

The FA Vase – Semi Final – 2nd Legs
2 Morpeth Town v Bowers & Pitsea (2-2) att 1256

2-2 was the 1st leg score. Morpeth won 2-1 to go through to the final.

Bit of a trek down for their fans, as one of the few English clubs who could call Blyth Spartans "Southern softies"

.. Indeed - original part of my review post lost by tablet/iPad/Safari v HNA Editor shmozzle - now corrected I hope!

Be intriguing to see if the 'Billy Big Bollards' from Hereford can roll them over on the big stage - the difference in comparative sizes of the two clubs is mind-boggling.

It's no more mind boggling than the difference between Hereford and the rest of the clubs in their own division, I'd have thought, and they are only 2nd in that. They are away to table-topping Alvechurch next Monday, which looks a biggie.

I wonder if Hereford might take more fans than Halifax or Grimsby. I'd like to see them win as I like Edgar Street. I went there for their opening game at the start of the season, and it's like a museum piece of what grounds used to look like when I first started going to away games in the late 1980s.

Fairly busy week of local NL :

On Monday in the Southern Premier Hungerford slipped up at home again 0-1, to play-off rivals Weymouth @ Bulpit Lane;
In the Hellenic Premier Binfield were out-powered by title chasing Flackwell - Moles' cause not helped by having a few important absences up front.

The following night saw Kidlington take a decisive step towards the Hellenic title, with a strong performance and a 2-0 win at current leaders Thatcham. A crowd of just under 200 witnessed the Oxfordshire team stifle their hosts from the off and in the end run out comfortable winners.
Kiddy still have two games against third placed Flackwell but providing they avoid defeat in one or both then they are probably worthy champions. They have three games in hand on Thatcham and are only 2 points adrift.

Elsewhere in the same section 'Sumas' were mathematically relegated with a hefty 1-5 defeat at Thame; Highworth fell surprisingly at home 1-2 to a maddeningly inconsistent Nomads - Bracknell trounced Woodley 6-1 in the Supplementary Cup and in Div One East, Henley picked up three points at Chalfont Wasps' - played at their midweek home of Amersham FC.

Back up in the Southern League Premier Chesham won 3-0 vs Leamington, Slough's long trek down to bottom side Bideford ended in upset 2-1 to the hosts.
In the Central section, Fleet edged Egham 2-1 and in the S&W division Winchester were held 1-1 at Tiverton whilst Bashley reverted to norm, shipping 11 {eleven} w/o reply at play off chasing Taunton.

Few games in the CCL - Camberley beating form side Knaphill 3-1 at Krooner; at the bottom Redhill eased any distant fears of being overhauled by a resurgent Cove beating them 3-0; Farnham lost at home to Epsom & Ewell and last night (Wed) Hartley Wintney re-opened the 6 point gap at the top (and with two games in hand) with an impressive 5-2 win at Guildford.

... and finally another game last night (Wed) saw Ascot progress to the Floodlit Cup Final with a 2-1 home win over Flackwell - who could probably do with less games as it is - they are still in three other Cup competitions. 'Yellamen' will play Thatcham or Brimscomb, who play their S-F tie next week, in the Final - date and venue tba.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By way of a mini-Holiday preview here are tomorrow's games involving local sides.
(Good Friday 25th March)
NAT
Forest Green Rovers v Aldershot Town
NATS
Havant & Waterlooville v Hayes & Yeading Utd 19:45 - though various sources were showing this fixture as a PM KO
Maidenhead United v Bath City
Weston-Super-Mare v Ebbsfleet United
SOUTHP
Hitchin Town v Weymouth
SOUTH1S&W
Winchester City v Slimbridge
CCLP
13:00 Epsom & Ewell v Westfield
...and two 'local' Cup Finals in the morning
Aylesbury & District league Thomas Field Shield Final
10:45 Great Missenden v St Johns Sports
@Tring Athletic FC
Slough Town Cup Final
10:30 Thame Rangers v Lynch Pin
@ Burnham FC
- is a repeat of last years final which I attended - same venue too - Thame Rangers took name change and moved south from their village (Oakley) on the borders of Bucks/Oxon to play at the ASM complex in Thame - home of Hellenic Premier outfit Thame Utd. They also switched leagues from the Oxfordshire Senior to the Wycombe & District.
Could be a more even contest than 14-15 - which 'Oakley' won 4-0. Now as Thame they have a league record of 9-0-1 and Lynch Pin are currently 10-0-0 in the East Berks Premier division - intriguingly neither side are top of their divisions. :?
...as usual working against the clock here - so no limited review/preview today - apologies :|
RESULTS
(Good Friday 25th March)
NAT
Forest Green Rovers 0-0 Aldershot Town
NATS
Havant & Waterlooville 1-0 Hayes & Yeading Utd
Maidenhead United 3-1 Bath City - 'Magpies' now only 1 point outside the play-offs
Weston-Super-Mare 2-1 Ebbsfleet United
SOUTHP
Hitchin Town 1-0 Weymouth
- got to this one yesterday PM - is some kind of 'hoppers' Nirvana - if you believe what's written about the place on NLM. Probably down to all the quaint wooden stepped stands. Good contest but Terras reduced to 10 men early first half meant they ultimately buckled under growing pressire. Tim Sills (ex Basingstoke, Gulls and Sh!ts amongst many others) now up front for them, ran the hosts back line around as best he could in his advancing years.
SOUTH1S&W
Winchester City 2-1 Slimbridge
CCLP
Epsom & Ewell 0-2 Westfield - real set back for 'Salts' - they had hopes of a big crowd pushing them on to what they consider will be a promotion place as runners-up - there are thoughts (from them - not checked elsewhere) that current leaders Hartley Wintney will NOT get grading for STEP04 - certainly the Memorial Ground is a bit basic when it comes to entrances and surrounds (i.e. only three sided ) but wouldn't be the worst STEP04 around - overall good news for Ashford Town. Back in 4th even Camberley with their games in hand, may yet have a say in who finishes behind Hartley. I'd imagine they might be OK on grading too if they re-opened their Krooner Rd entrance. Not certain whose officially applied to be considered for promotion from CCLP
Aylesbury & District league Thomas Field Shield Final
10:45 Great Missenden 3-4 St Johns Sports
@Tring Athletic FC
Slough Town Cup Final
10:30 Thame Rangers 2-0Lynch Pin
@ Burnham FC
- got out to this - good tussle but the Wycombe League side (Thame) were always on top - very healthy crowd at the Gore too - must have been close to 400 odd , in very pleasant sunshine. Daughter expressed approval of the Bacon Cheeseburger & Chips :lol:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...and a quick Preview of Today's fixtures - for me destination unknown but I'm being evicted from my abode around lunchtime - as we have the Annual Handbell Ringers Day - youngest will have first dibs and I'd expect him to choose one with potential for goals - Salisbury vs Folland (top vs bottom) in the Wessex Prem looks a banker in that respect:

Kidlington 1-0 Flackwell Heath - Kiddy move into top spot and probably put Heathens out of contention now - it would take an alarming collapse in the home straight for either Thatcham or Flackwell to overhaul Kidlington.

Andover Town 2-1 Bournemouth
Hamworthy United 2-1 Whitchurch United
Salisbury 4-2 Folland Sports - att 650
– was at this with youngest – wasn’t the wholly one sided outcome we’d expected beforehand (top vs bottom) though Salisbury did have the majority of the play particularly around the visitors area late on – playing with the wind. Folland led 0-2 at the break but the Whites upped the power and could bring on subs that greatly influenced the game. Nice to see Claridge looking distinctly uncomfortable on the touchline – but once Salisbury scored the first immediately after the break, there was only going to be one winner – brave though Folland battled.

WESS1
Alton Town 6-3 United Services Portsmouth
Andover New Street 5-1 East Cowes Vics
Laverstock & Ford 3-0 Pewsey Vale
New Milton Town 1-1 Fleet Spurs
Tadley Calleva 5-0 Hythe & Dibden - Tadley’s good run continues, now up to 4th with games in hand on 2nd place Laverstock
