...just a quick tick-over/round-up of this weeks games, affecting local clubs:
NATIONALNational: The Sh!ts lost by the odd goal in 7 at the Rec vs Grimsby - crowd close to 1,400 - led 2-0 trailed 2-3 levelled only to lose it ion 88'
South: Mon - Wealdstone drew a blank with Hemel.
Tue - good win for
'Magpies' 3-0 at York Rd vs Whitehawk particularly with Dartford losing at 4th placed Truro, together with Hemel's dropped points, leaves Maidenhead in 5th spot.
Sadly
Basingstoke look doomed now after a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers W-S-M. HandY weren't in action but are still in the bottom three with StAlebuns in 2nd bottom place.
In the clash of 2nd v 3rd behind current leaders Ebbsfleet, Sutton Utd's impressive 2-1 win at Maidstone sees them leapfrog the 'stones (or should that be skip over
) and get within reach of top spot - they have 2 games in hand and are 2 points behind. Tuesday's win all the more remarkable as they played the last hour of the game with 10 men.
North:Brackley didn't play but benefited from Lowestoft's heavy 4-0 defeat at Harrogate. The 'Saints' are just outside the drop-zone but only above the 'Trawlerboys' on GD. There are a cluster of about half-a-doz clubs just above them separated by only 1 point - a win at Gloucester this w/e would go some way to easing their relegation worries.
SOUTHERNPremier: - wins for Weymuff and Poole livens up the play-off positions - with the Dolphins' extending their lead to 6 points at the top above a faltering Redditch, who were held at home 0-0 by Dunstable on Monday evening.
Chesham got a point at Frome.
Bideford are at last off the bottom with an away win at Biggleswade Town - they are replaced by Paulton but neither club has much hope of getting out of the bottom four as the games run out.
One Central:- new leaders in this very tight section are
Egham. The 'Sarnies' comfortably beat previously 2nd placed Royston 3-1 whilst former leaders Kings Langley were held 0-0 at much improved
Fleet Town. There were wins for
Godalming and
Chalfont St P. and another surprise reverse for AFC R&D who hang on to the last Play-Off spot on GD.
One South & West:- not many games in this section this week but significantly Supermarine won at Bps Cleeve to go 4th and hop over
Winchester City who grabbed a point away at 2nd placed Cinderford Town. That result also leaves Banbury in top spot on GD but the 'Foresters' still have 2 games in hand. Tiverton bt Taunton 1-0 to stay 3rd. Only Evesham can threaten to join the play-off melee - they are however on a run of 9 straight wins so none of the above can afford to ease up.
Combined Counties
Premier:Camberley edged out Redhill 2-1 at Krooner - bottom placed
Cove lost at home 1-2 to
Chertsey and
Westfield got a 2-2 draw at AFC Hayes.
Baggy Lea and
Knaphill both drew at home with CWU & C&H respectively whilst RPV bt Bedfont Sports 1-0.
Farnham won 4-0 away at Wessex strugglers Alresford, in the Aldersh!t Senior Cup semi-final; they will meet
Fleet Town or
Camberley at the Rec on Wed 11th May.
There are a few games scheduled for tonight but the weather may well intervene - the forecast was for heavier rain later this PM - although that seems to have been 'downgraded' to sunny showers - and the grounds concerned are notoriously poor in the wet : (
Farnham v
Knaphill,
Badshot Lea v
Camberley @
Ash Utd & Redhill v Chess 'n Hook)
From Div One
Frimley Green went to Imber Court (Met Police FC) for the Surrey Premier Cup Final but were beaten 2-0 by Nottesborough from the Southern Amateur FA.
Hellenic
Premier:Mon -
Binfield won impressively 4-1 at Palmer Pk vs H/I
Tue -
Thatcham just cling on to the rapidly disappearing Kidlington, with a 2-1 win v Tuffley; the leaders (Kiddy) edged past relegated
Wok & Emm 1-0. This effectively put
Flackwell Heath out of the running for top spot. The 'Heathens' could at least console themselves with a bit of silverware, as they won the B&B Senior Trophy, last night 2-0 vs 'hosts' Newport Pagnell Town. The Heathens manage Graham Malcolm will depart at the end of the season.
Flackwell host Kiddy next Tuesday - will be of some interest should Kidlington slip up away at Lydney this coming w/e. A win there would seal the title - anything less gives next Tuesday's games a lot more edge. That same evening
Thatcham travel to much improved
Bracknell - will be a lot of anxious 'twitter' watchers at both games.
Bracknell drew 2-2 at Highworth and Nomads by Lydney 1-0 last night (Wed)
One East:Mon -
Henley Town recovered from their set-back last w/e with a hard fought win over Chalfont Wasps 3-1.
- I toddled along to this with middle-one - she actually watched quite a lot of the game and showed a sudden interest in Footballers' earnings - found an app that counts how much Rayne Wooney is earning per second - I pointed out that not only was he already married but that she was approx 40 years too young for him! Tue - 'The Red Kites' rivals at the top, Penn & Tylers won 4-0 v
Finchampstead and Bicester bt Wasps 2-0 on Wednesday.
- Not quite the disaster yet for Henley, as at least their win puts them into 3rd place above Headington who have completed their fixtures. Penn & T Gn cannot be promoted but Henley would have a better case for promotion if they could get nearer to 2nd place - they both have 3 games left, including for Henley a daunting trip to Bicester (Ardley FC) this Sat but are 7 points adrift - so unlikely - especially the way Penn are playing of late and looking at their remaining opponents .
...as an aside the B&B Intermediate Final was played last Saturday at Abingdon Utd - Risborough Rangers from the SSM Div 1 triumphed 2-1 after extra time over Olney Town from the United Counties League...and finally ...
WESSEX
Premier- huge 7-3 win for
Whitchurch Utd over Bournemouth, both the top two, Salisbury and Blackfield & Langley, won at home - they meet tonight (Thursday) at Gang Warily ground - could be a huge crowd for that.
Andover Town bt bottom club Folland Sports 3-0.
OneTadley Calleva drew 2-2 at Christchurch whilst much improved
Fleet Spurs racked up a 7-4 at home to Laverstock & Ford
