Zammo Didcot Town vs Slough Town Saturday. 1pm k.o. £5.

First game of the season. Proper football.

Didcot Town 4 - 1 Slough Town
Wasn't there (was at Boreham Wood) but a full-blooded affair from what I heard, with some 'tasty' challenges and a decent game.

Didcot played extremely well. As good as I've seen them over the past two seasons. Entertaining, but wouldn't say it was a dirty game at all. Fair play to Slough fans, they brought a few (well, about 30 !).

It's Wealdstone V Leyton Orient tonight in Ruislip.

...sorry a bit remiss not to put up a review of Sat's results and a preview of this midweek but I doubted there was that much interest for what is little more than a few trial/squad games often at low facility alternative venues e.g. WIndsor's first few are being held at Eton Town .

I trundled up to Milton 0-3 Wantage tonight but I wouldn't expect the game gave much of an indication as to their prospects in their respective league campaigns. There were a lot of changes at HT and on through the 2nd half.

I'll try and find some time this week to round-up the local games of interest from the w/e and tonight.

Thatcham are probably sending a strong outfit to Mortimer on Thu evening 18:30 KO and it's nicely located for a swift half or more in the Pub next to the ground. (Turner's Arms)

...bit late now but last night (Tue) they went down 1-4 @ Hartley W whilst Binfield W2-0 @ Alton
Hungerford D1-1 @ Supermarine and Windsor bt Chalvey 4-1

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...and here's the PSF scores I managed to find from last w/e
Alton Town 4-1 AFC Totton
Bedfont & Feltham 1-3 Wembley
Binfield 2-1 Badshot Lea
Bracknell Town 2-3 Camberley Town
Colden Common 1-1 Whitchurch Town
Didcot Town 4-1 Slough Town
Hamble 0-4 Thatcham Town
Knaphill 1-1 Ashford Town
Woodstock Town 1-7 Ardley United
Overton United 3-3 Andover New Street
Sandhurst Town 3-3 Farnborough
Tadley Calleva 1-1 Bashley
Walton Casuals 6-1 Eversley & California
Winchester City 3-1 Alresford Town
Windsor 1-1 Dorking
Wokingham & Emmbrook 4-4 Cockfosters
Woodley United 1-2 Marlow
Somebody told me that Virginia Water (today's opponents) are groundsharing at Stag Meadow this season.
Find that hard to believe to be honest but we shall see.
Royal Rother Somebody told me that Virginia Water (today's opponents) are groundsharing at Stag Meadow this season.
...did a bit of deep anorak delving here and a groundshare did seem to be on the cards but was tied into negotiations around the FA, the SEIL and the local council (Runnymede?) thereabouts, relating to development of their 'Timbers' ground, making it eligible to pass for STEP06.
(Great place by the way - big elevated pitch in a public park with a very serviceable clubhouse. Local football-journo Tony Incenzo is often to be found lurking about too.)
I suspect the issue might have gone away, as the SEIL wouldn't allow 2 sides to go up last season (they'd lose numbers and there was no candidate to relegate from above).
Balham (who ARE groundsharing at Colliers Wood) went up to CCL1 from runner-up spot - Horsley the champions of the Surrey Elite in successive seasons, still have plenty work to do and need to convince their local community that they can host STEP06 without disrupting the natural local dooh dah - some hope in that part of the world - and their ground IS in the middle of nowhere!
Did get a big Sports Council grant a few years back to set up an all weather floodlit 6-a-side though.
Not surprisingly the local council are not keen on VW developing their current site and have reportedly offered them another one - presumably they'd still need to enter into a groundshare agreement whilst that was being developed?
... is also tied in to this supposed FA 'moratorium' on possible expulsion for unlit STEP06 clubs in the CCL (and elsewhere) - there are still a couple of them in CCL1 living on borrowed time. Ironically Staines Lammas, a hefty throw-ins distance from Virginia Water, have gone back to their original home at Laleham Rec. where they have debatably worse or certainly no better facilities, than Virginia Water do now.
Thanks for that - guess it's still a wait and see situation to an extent then.
If there is a groundshare happening then I'd imagine an announcement would be made this afternoon.
Windsor 1-0 VW
Someone says the ground share starts next season, not this coming one.
Another said there is a BBQ tonight at the club celebrating VW's alliance with Windsor.
So still not entirely clear when / what.
Trip to FGR today v Birmingham. Free tickets in the box courtesy of Mrs DDs uncle who is their 1st team fitness coach. Was a good game and Brum had a very strong team (first team essentially). Is a very nice ground, deffo L2 at least. Food is seriously good (all vegan) and had chips and vegan Mexican fajita and cakes etc. Was a really big ground and great atmosphere and would seriously consider doing It again (only 1 hour down the road and 280 for a season ticket and that has to be better then the dross at RFC)
Round-up of those I managed to find:
PSF - Saturday 16th July
AFC Hayes 0-8 {EIGHT} Harrow Borough
AFC Stoneham 1-1 Oxford City Nomads
Abbey Rangers 1-1 Westside
Alton Town 2-1 Sholing
Amesbury Town 1-1 Petersfield Town
Basingstoke Town {SIX} 6-2 Salisbury
Bedfont & Feltham 2-3 Egham Town
Bedfont Sports 2-4 Wembley
Binfield 1-4 Chalfont St P
Chesham United 1-3 Oxford City
Colliers Wood United 4-1 Eastbourne Town
Dorking 0-6 Corinthian Casuals XI
Farnborough 0-1 Merstham
Fleet Spurs 2-0 Cove
Guildford City {ELEVEN} 11-0 Eversley & California
Hamble 1-0 Whitchurch United
Hampton & Richmond Borough 3-0 Aldershot Town
Hayes & Yeading 3-0 Didcot Town - - was a 'closed' doors' affair on 3G ; hosts (NOT incl the mercurial J.Harper this PM) scored two pens, Diddy missed theirs (Brooks)
Highmoor Ibis 2-1 Badshot Lea
Lyne 1-3 Spelthorne Sports
Milton Utd 2-1 Burghclere
Molesey 3-5 Knaphill
Moreton Rangers 4-0 Hook Norton – might suggest Hooky were wise to turn down Cheltenham Sarries Premier place offered to them earlier this week - means top Hellenic Division will run one team short
Penn & Tylers Green 0-4 Maidenhead United XI - 2nd match on their new pitch - think it's positioned closer to the clubhouse and has dugouts and a barrier surround for those that have ever been to French School Meadows. Ambitious club - next obstacle - which sadly may prove insurmountable, will be getting permission for and erecting floodlights.
Pewsey Vale 0-3 Balti Sports
Sandhurst Town 0-4 Camberley Town
Sheerwater 2-5 Liphook United
Slough {EIGHT} 8-0 Godalming - for those interested, check out Sluff's twitter page [https://twitter.com/sloughtownfc] - big bit on there about positive developments & actual 'concrete' :mrgreen: progress at the Arbour Rd site.
Staines Town 0-2 Barnet
Tadley Calleva 3-2 Cowes Sports
Taplow United 1-4 Holyport
Risborough Rangers 2-4 Thame Utd
Thatcham Town
1-4 Maidenhead United
Tring Athletic 3-0 Ardley United
Wantage Town 1-5 Bracknell Townprobably says more about Wantage but win included an Ian Davies hat-trick for the Robins, who are looking more like Binfield OB every week!
Winchester City 3-1 Lymington Town
Windsor 1-0 Virginia Water
Woodley Utd 0-4 E&C Reserves
... youngest & I trekked over to ex-Hellenic leaguers Malmesbury Victoria, who hosted a strong looking STEP03 Chipp'num. Lively game, not great conditions bit blustery - not much change to the place since my previous visit to the delightfully named 'Flying Monk' ground.
Surface looks good, at the moment but often suffers from the wet here - there's a river/culvert thingy right down by - indeed almost underneath the corner flag - any right back attempting a chasing/sliding tackle would be well advised to hold his breath in case he ends up in the Avon! :lol:
'Vics' have stepped back up having sheltered for two seasons in the Wilts League but taken a very brave option of re-joining STEP06 at the Western league. It is often considered to be far stronger than the neighbouring Hellenic and definitely has far stricter grading rules. At least this season's Western One constitution doesn't involve any excessive treks down into deepest Devon. I think the furthest trip for them will be down to Wellington beyond 'Torenton'.
... here's most of the scores from yesterday's PSFs and a few other odds I managed to dig up.....
Saturday 23rd July
Jartazi Cup @ Aylesbury FC
S-F 1 Aylesbury 2-1 Harrow Borough
S-F 2 Egham Town 1-3 Greenwich Borough
3/4th Harrow Boro 6-1 Egham – in fairness ‘Sarnies’ did have to play two games in quick succession.
Final – Aylesbury 0-0 Greenwich Boro (Boro W3-1 on pens)
Andover New Street 2-2 Highworth Town
Aylesbury United 0-2 Chesham United
Banbury United 4-2 Hednesford Town
Basingstoke 3-1 Reading FC U21Royals injury time pen through Novakovich
Bedfont Sports 1-3 Broadfields Utd
Bracknell Town 5-2 Badshot Lea
Didcot 0-4 Hungerford Town
Farnborough 0-0 Slough Town – ‘boro win on pens (Hendon Tournament – Final vs hosts this PM Sunday)
Farnham Town 1-2 Alton Town
Fleet Spurs 0-4 Knaphill
Godalming Town 2-2 Alresford Town
Hanworth Villa 0-1 Ardley United
Highmoor Ibis 4-1 Wembley
Hook Norton 3-0 Frimley Green
Kidlington 0-1 Flackwell Heath
Letcombe 1-1 Kintbury
Maidenhead Utd 3-2 Watford U21s
Merrow 1-2 Cobham
Newbury 6-0 Highworth ‘Dev’
Penn & Tylers Green 0-4 Binfield
Shepton Mallet 0-1 Thatcham Town
Tadley Calleva 4-1 Woodley Utd
Wootton Bassett Town 1-2 Swindon Supermarine
... mate has changed his working days around and recovered his weekends off - so better potential for new 'ticks' in the coming season 8)
- yesterday I took him to Hook Norton - played on the back pitch due to 'crikkit' - where there was at least some shade.
Frimley Gn looked good individually but shockingly light weight especially at he back - Hooky were big strong and fast and should have won by far more than three.
Lovely pre-match 'snifta' in The Pear Tree just down the hill from The Bourne - and right by the main lane that leads into the Hook Norton Brewery. Drove down there after the game to have a nosey but mate didn't go in to buy any 'wares' from the visitor centre.
The brewery building looks like a scary mansion-type edifice straight out of Scooby Doo! Took a piccie but the sun was too bright for my crappy phone camera.
