Wow! That's a bit of a coup.

Royal Rother Windsor 2-0 RPV

Not much of a spectacle with very little quality on show. Still, 3 points and a clean sheet is perfectly acceptable I suppose.

Another new face up front who did bugger all.

The new face up front is a midfielder who has played at a significantly higher level, incl a Maidenhead for a couple of years, and is capped by Montserrat!

Adrian Clifton - even has his own Wiki page! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Clifton

People there friendly enough and working hard to get around their makeshift limitations - nice BBQ on the go - but the crowd was poor for two STEP03 sides (only 238). Match wasn't great either - visitors remarkably unambitious ; took lead first half with some good interplay then packed it in and sat back - allowed Canvey to roll them over late on. At least the M'ways were behaving - glad to get this one out of the way - my mates been nagging me to bring him here for yonks.

AthleticoSpizz Decent enough sounding 2-2 FA Cup result for Ascot Utd vs vastly superior opposition Tonbridge Angels

I was there this PM - att. 430 ... got there very early for me - 14:20 odd - and still didn't arrive in time to get a programme :| - word was they only printed about 60 in the first place?

Tonbridge had better individuals, particularly up front but were careless in possession, unimaginative coming forward and generally pretty lacklustre over the 90'. Ascot matched them with commitment and energy and merited their 2nd chance.

Yellamen shocked them early on following a dreadful error by the visiting kp under a high ball - called loudly for it, clattered one of his own defenders and dropped the ball on Seymour's feet who poked it over the line.

Angels levelled with a towering header in from a corner; led midway 2nd half following a harshly awarded penalty, then instead of seeing the game out, allowed Ascot to push them back. Seymour grabbed an equaliser in the last 5' - good interplay on the right side of the area which belied the 2 step level of inferiority - ball scuffed inside the far post off a defender.

Yellamen nearly entered dreamland in injury time - awarded a pen of their own following a tug on a shirt - Angels keeper made amends for his earlier gaffe by saving high to his right.

Replay next Tuesday - sadly I doubt Tonbridge will be as poor nor Ascot so energetic.

Decided to go and watch Maidenhead United at Dartford this weekend. Absolutely brilliant facilities, good atmosphere and for a 0-0 draw, not a terrible spectacle. Looks like they missed having Tarpey up front to convert the chances.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Dartford 'do a Crawley' and end up in the Football League in 5 years.

Surprised by drop off in Slough attendance already. Do Slough make ££ off the bar and facilities there or is it going back to pay off the £8 million to the taxpayer :shock:

Royalist Surprised by drop off in Slough attendance already.

Attendance was twice that from comparable game at SYCOB from FA Cup 2 years ago

Royalist Do Slough make ££ off the bar and facilities there or is it going back to pay off the £8 million to the taxpayer :shock:

Why would a club that use a Council-owned Community Sports Facility pay off £8m? They don't own the ground. They pay for the use of it.

Have you been to the ground yet? What did you think of it?

Sure crowds are up on SYCOB attendances but that's a lot of cheese burger and chips to get the money back! :mrgreen:

... naah - I go there often enough not to be too bovvered about lack of paper - others storm off rather than come though the turnstile - so you can work out where their priorities are..... :?

If I've gone a long distance to somewhere new and they either haven't done one at all or just the bare minimum and sold out (as was reportedly the case here - seemingly all sold by 13:45 :o ), I might 'sniff' a bit internally but if I was that set on getting a programme I'd try and make sure I got there much earlier - hardly worth it for a cup tie just down the road - even though I made a half-@rsed attempt, hence my earlier than usual arrival.

I probably could have asked the nice lady that runs the place - she will often scour the dressing rooms during the first half to pick up spare copies that the players have chucked.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...got out tonight (Monday) to the FA Cup Replay at SYCOB - they brushed a very poor 'Freds' away 6-1 - wasn't helped by a churlish lunge and shove at 3-0 which earned a straight red for a Wantage midfielder. The ten men then promptly scored but suicidally then went three at the back and were picked off, as SYCOB played their best football of the night. Included a 30 odd yd screamer from our former academy lad Charlie Losasso .
Only 118 attendance and the game KO'd about 20 odd mins late - something very untoward happening around that jn of the M40 - I somehow crept through without too much bother - only left 'ding at about 19:00 ....but folks heading down from N & E or just over from Wycombe in one case, were taking an hour to get across the M'way there. Wantage themselves didn't turn up until abut 19:20 hence the delay in KO. Bet they wish they'd turned round and gone home!
The winners host Witham from the Ryman One North in the next round (2Q) on the 17th.
Some choice 'local' draws came out of the hat :
Basingstoke v Hungerford
Cambridge City v Slough
Hayes & Y v Worthing
North Leigh v Weston S-M
Staines v Maidenhead
Supermarine v Farnborough
Wealdstone v Histon
Winchester v Truro
... and two all STEP 5 ties ensures a 'minnow' in Q3
Brislington v Brimscomb
Fareham or Alresford v Cadbury Heath
... AFC Porchester from the Wessex Prem host Merthyr
... Highworth got a nice big fish too - away v Havant & Waterlooville
... should Ascot perform miracles and overcome Tonbridge on their own patch - they'll need to travel to Wingate & Finchley
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~ and finally :mrgreen:
Binfield beat Highmoor/IBIS 3-0 tonight to open up a 5 point lead at the top o the Hellenic Premier..
...it does appear as if earlier today Carterton resigned from the Hellenic league - silver lining for Henley perhaps - if it's only two or possibly just one club to be relegated this season? It's already running one short.
Eversley & California have been unable to get an u18s team together for the Allied Counties League so have withdrawn, and, from what I've heard, Burnham may follow suit.
Carterton have pulled out of the Hellenic Premier having lost a manager, a team, got new managers, lost them and never really having team in the meantime. They'd not turned up to 4 or 5 games due to a lack of players so it sounds like they've just been fighting off the inevitable there.
Burnham are really struggling with their Senior side, again.
Great victory for the Stones last night in their clash at home to Weston Super Mare. After throwing away the win at the last minute against Poole Town on Saturday, the Stones bounced back to record a fantastic battling victory against a hard working Weston Super Mare side.
Once again the home crowd were noisy as ever and make it a very difficult place for anybody to come and get a result.
The Stones are up to fifth in the table now and the National League South is shaping up to be a very exciting season for all our local sides.
Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead United top the table and have Dave Tarpey firing in the goals. Hungerford United have had a good start as well and Wealdstone have their strongest side in years gunning for the top 6. The promoted clubs just can't get out of the winning habit with Hampton and Richmond looking a formidable side at NLS level. Their players are on peanuts so it will be interesting to see how long they can retain their best players.
I would suggest to any Reading fans that you should get down and watch your local non league sides play when Reading are not playing of course or are so far away from home that you can't be a*sed to go.
I've managed to get to all of Reading's home games this season and all of Wealdstone's thanks to the luck of the fixture lists. At the moment, I'm having more fun watching the Stones. You can't beat the 'proper' football that you get at non league level. Just like the old days!
Hoop Blah Burnham are really struggling with their Senior side, again.
.... tonight's result from the increasingly aptly named 'Gore'
Burnham 0-9 {NINE} Flackwell Heath - they need some players in - fast - and not one of these 'phantom' squads that Carterton were supposed to have built within three days, that never took the field. :?
Odd thing is, I saw them win a pre-season Wilts/Oxon borders tournament, with a very useful looking team AND the Witney & District FA constitution had at least three teams listed under the Carterton banner, as well as a reserve side in Hellenic Two I think? That was some fallout!
Doesn't get easier for 'Blues' either - travel to a much improving Highworth this Saturday then to Ascot next week. At least they have a bye to the Vase 2nd round - but on the 24th Sept will be hosting Amersham, who are no great shakes in the SSML or - much more likely - have to welcome big bad Marcus and his lads from Highmoor/IBIS :?
.... has been a fairly busy night around our NL sides - will try and expand on the results tomorrow - but headlines I suppose:
- Ascot bow out of the FA Cup beaten 0-7 at Tonbridge
- Maidenhead grab a 2-1 win at Eastbourne Borough - 2 goals for Tarpey; Hungerford beaten 0-2 at Truro - some 'Crusade' there indeed for a midweek :roll:
- Windsor share 6 goals up the top of the M3 at Spelthorne
- Hartley race further clear walloping AFC Hayes 6-2
- Thatcham put 5 past Longlevens to stay in touch with Binfield
- Henley go down 1-4 at Ardley, Nomads edge Tuffley 3-2 and Highworth got a good 2-1 win at Lydney - Worthians have picked up after losing their first four league games - tbf those four were all pretty tough.
I watched Cove bely their awful start by beating Frimley Gn 3-1 at their Recreation Ground. The visitors from just the other side of the A331 looked far brighter and more adventurous - hopefully their season may start to pick up. To date they'd already shipped 6 goals, four times and managed to go one better and let in 7 last Saturday! :shock:
... and what's with FG's kit - traditionally have been a fairly regulatory combo of blue/white - tonight they were sporting electric green shirts with purple shorts!! :mrgreen:
Hoop Blah Carterton have pulled out of the Hellenic Premier having lost a manager, a team, got new managers, lost them and never really having team in the meantime. They'd not turned up to 4 or 5 games due to a lack of players so it sounds like they've just been fighting off the inevitable there.
Burnham are really struggling with their Senior side, again.
What a shame - such a good facility there, pitch and clubhouse.
Horrible club to referee mind you.
If I had the money I would love to buy Weymouth - excellent ground, big crowds if successful, sleeping giant.
