I do like a penalty shootout when I'm not bothered who wins.

Bassey didn't deserve to lose that game

Wish they'd stop saying penalties are a lottery. It's a test of the taker's skills against the keeper's skills.

Mentioned a couple of days ago but just don’t see a need to bring on a player so late into the game - it puts huge pressure on them when the only reason they’re brought on it to take a penalty and it was obvious Ramsey wasn’t confident

Frankfurt’s penalties were excellent mind

Can see him getting snapped up in the summer. Will take a Big Spender to lure him away though.

Bit of both IMO but yeah - there’s more to it than simply a “lottery”

If you think about it, a Sunday league side could beat Liverpool on penalties quite easily. I think "lottery" is relatively fair. Essentially anyone could win a penalty shootout, there is a luck element to it.

100% agree. Really bugs me when people claim it a lottery. It's 2 peoples skill, decision making, nerve etc up against each other.

If you think about it a Sunday league side could beat Liverpool. That is the beauty of football. There is about a billionth of a percent chance that it will happen but it could. Mad Bazza wallops one in from 40 yards and then somehow Liverpool contrive to miss every chance they create - it isn't going to happen, but it could.

Football by it's nature is a sport of skill and luck. Penalties the same. If a penalty is well taken it should be unsaveable but a well prepared goalkeeper can give themselves a chance by knowing where the penalty taker is most likely to try and put it. From the takers side, it is a test of execution under pressure and preparation.

Saw an interesting bit from Ben Foster where he said after the last Liverpool game, Salah came up to him and asked him - if I had got a penalty today, which way would you have dived. Foster immediately said right, as he knew that's where Salah puts them. Salah then used that info to practice putting penalties elsewhere so he is comfortable going at different targets making it harder for the keeper to read.

Junior loves a penalty shootout (she doesn't watch games, I have to text her if pens are imminent, she's had a decent week) and last night I told her, between explaining the nationalities of the Rangers players, that Ramsey had come on late, presumably to take a pen and she immediately said he was going to miss "As that never works"

Cagey game last night, as you'd tend to expect, only caught bits of the second half though. I loved the Frankfurt fans though, everyone in white it looked really good behind the goal.

Rangers fans pictured crying on news outlets this morning, probably the same one that were crying with laughter when England got beat by Italy last summer, karma.

Sounds as though she could be a good replacement for Ian at some stage.

BTW my missus is great (not) at identifying a player who is shamming.
It's guaranteed to be a serious injury.

Eintracht reception in the city tonight is crazy.

Took them 3 hours to travel the 15km from airport to Town Hall in convertibles, stopping for photos, autographs etc on the way. Fans getting to touch or hold the trophy. Estimates of around 200k on the streets.

Scenes at the Römer, the main City Square just fantastic to watch.
