Is Steve Gibson no longer on charge there? Or has he become a typical idiot chairman?

Ridiculous so close to the end of season. Realistically they were never going to stay up. Seriously what is this madness!!!! They are 4 games to late * see hull and swansea*

This decision might make a bit more sense if Shteve wasn't currently unemployed

Historically it doesn't work. Newcastle and Villa last year, Norwich 2014, Us in 2013, Wolves in 2011 and 2012. All of them sacked managers in March/April when threatened with relegation and none survived.

Sunderland seem to be the only team who can do it and have it work (2013 and 2014)

Don't forget this is a manager that basically walked out on them last year and has apparently been very very negative and it sounds like the fans have just given up on them.

This might be the last roll of the dice to stay up but it's possibly just as much about not having him around for next season either.

once quite publicly but at the time there were a lot of stories that he had already done it once before too

Sunderland's tale is more convoluted. Sunderland replaced O'Neill very late sure, but di Canio was replaced in October 2013. Poyet was then replaced in March 2015.

I've seen a paper that ran the stats. Essentially changing the manager typically gives a burst of form then regression to the mean, but some managers really improve things and some really don't. So there's clearly a sweet spot for a short term managerial change - enough time to come in, get the burst of form, but not too close so you've got games in case you need them.

Plus di Canio was fucking mental.

Zola quits. Great player, comes across as nice bloke, shame really but just don't think being a manager is for him.

His appointment was not one of Brum hiarachies better moves. Their decent previous manager must be feeling a little glimmer of satisfaction right now.

Better the devil......and all that

If Blackburn can pick up 1 win in their last 3 games, Birmingham are seriously fcuked and it serves the owners right for making such a arse witted managerial change in the first place.

They both play Villa. What odds Villa beating Birmingham then throwing the Blackburn game to send City down

They didn't waste time, did they? I wonder if he was lined up before Zola's resignation.

In fairness to 'Arry, I like his attitude towards the job, basically "there's no risk because I can't do any worse than the last bloke".

1 win and he can walk away in 3 weeks' time a hero.

I can see them staying up on 47 points. "Three worse teams" and all that.

Though it would be spectacular if Villa hand them a hiding and then somehow manage to lose against Blackburn
