Hoop Blah Brasil who are supposedly struggling to get things going for 2014

Just like South Africa that definately weren't going to get their stadiums built on time and all the tourists would get raped and murdered?

Stranded Surely then, if that was the point of what FIFA are trying to do then they should only have invited bids from those countries where a legacy can be left? In this case, countries who haven't hosted before. It would have saved a lot of wasted time and money not just for us but for Spain/Portugal too.

If they are so fussed about transparency then it needs to be at all times, not just when it suits.

Agree that the process should be changed to stop nations spending millions when they have no chance. Feel particularly sorry for Aus as they went to FIFA 2 years ago to ask if they should continue and were told that they had a very good chance of winning. Then got 1 vote

Read this morning that Zidane was paid $3M by Qatar for the ads he did and was promised a further $12M if they won.

8) for Zidane

"Roger Burden to quit as FA chairman in Fifa protest" (BBC)

What a wussy, hissy cartload of naive prissy dummy-spitting prune-jowelled muppets these idiots are. They're just confirming everything other countries have got against us. The bloke's 64; the next World Cup we can bid for is in 2022--get over it, you utter goon, and do the rest of the job. Ever heard of being gracious in defeat, you forlorn twazzock?

Burden, who was appointed in May, says he can no longer trust Fifa members after England lost out to Russia.
"I recognise that an important part of the role is liaison with Fifa, our global governing body," said Burden.
"I'm not prepared to deal with people whom I cannot trust and I've withdrawn my candidacy," added the 64-year-old.
England 2018 officials have suggested that as many as six of the 22 Fifa members had promised to vote for England.
But in the end England received just two votes - one of them from Englishman Geoff Thompson - ensuring the bid crashed out in the first round of voting in Zurich on Thursday.

As for the other target of blame, the media: look maties, you can't call FIFA corrupt but blame the media for pointing it out. If the media are right--which they are, because the whole process is bent up to the eyeballs--then why did we want a part of it? The media are within their rights to try and torpedo it. If we'd've won the bid, these prize berks in FA ties wouldn't have been squealing like pot-bellied pigs on acid about the corrupt system: oh no, they'd've been rubbing their hands in glee at how much they were going to snort out of the golden trough themselves.

I just wish these pontificating Planet Stupid chinless blazer-wearing kamikazi-squad colonel blimps would shut their pock-marked whisky-and-soda-soaked carp-lipped mushes.

Hopefully Blatter'll be dead by 2022.

PieEater
leon Having the best "technical bid" and pre-built footballing infrastructure is utterly irrelevant if FIFA are looking to use the World Cup to develop the game in countries/regions where this isn't there already?

In previous World Cups, that was true for South Africa, what about Germany, France and Italy? Saying that now sounds like a convenient excuse to me.

Historically they have alternated, established European country to a developing country.

maybe legacy was one of the criteria, but not the only one? Who knows, it all looks very odd to me.

My point here is we were happy to crawl up the odious Jack Warner's arse playing pointless friendlies on his home island when we thought we had a good chance of winning it, happy to play the game knowing full well it was as bent as, then we should take it in good grace when we get stitched up.

Imagine if it had actually worked ? ie FIFA delegates getting to have dinner with the future King of England and then "deciding" that our bid was the best....I'm sorry that's just as crooked.

True but there is a lot of whining going on at the moment. England are hosting the next Olympic games. England are hosting the rugby World Cup in 2015. England hosted the European Championship finals in 1996 so its a pretty decent haul of major events I'd say.
Lets be honest. No-one thought London would win the Olympics. Did anyone complain about that vote being crooked? Did the French bang on about it? Nope.
Besides its high time Russia hosted the World Cup. Yes there is doubtless a hugh amount of corruption over there. However we are not unblemished are we.
Time to move on.

It'll be our first Olympics in 64 years. There's only a handful of countries that would even want to host the Rugby world cup. We hosted the EURO once ever.

But that's still mising the point. People aren't moaning that we should get to host these things more often. The complain isabout how dodgy the whole voting process seems.

Lets be honest. No-one thought London would win the Olympics. Did anyone complain about that vote being crooked? Did the French bang on about it?

We were surprised as we'd come to pretty much expect failure in Olympic bids. We weren't considered a no-hoper like Qatar. The world wasn't complaining mainly because there wasn't something to complain about. Nodoby thought it a farce that we'd won.

And if we'd lost a close race against Russia, few would have been making that much of a noise about it. When you submit an excellent bid, and only one other member thinks it's worth voting for, questions are rightly going to be asked.

Great. If Russia were going to get it because they'd never had it before, then why bother with a bidding process? Just make the bid open to nations who've not had it before, and stop others wasting their time.

2 paltry votes in round one is the embarrasment

incomprehensible

The FA should pull out of FIFA and form a break-away

How many other nations have hosted the Olympics twice? Greece,USA,Germany......it may be 64 years by 2012 but it still puts England right up there with an elite who have been hosts more than once.

Perhaps the most cringeworthy moment of our so-called "excellent" presentation was our future king offering seats at his wedding to the FIFA committee in front of the whole world

At least the other countries had the decency to offer their bribes in private

apparently we promised to not bid the 2006 World Cup to let Germany go for it if they supported our 1996 European championship bid (successful)

Guess what? We bid the 2006 world cup. So anyway back to these backstabbing FIFA characters....

LUX Spot on posts by Leon.

All this blubbing and worse is embarrassing.

'greed.

The England bid team must've had some idea of what would happen with the following:

Bribery: Roman's $ > Burberry handbags, dinner with Becks and the future king

Corruption: do I need to say anything other than MP's expenses...

Politics: getting stitched up by Mr Warner (who is obviously an utter pcunt as looks like he voted against the USA bid too) after pandering to his whims after the media expose Re: '06 blackmarket ticket sales that led to him (or his family...) paying back c.$1m. Schoolboy error.

FIFA officials not keeping their word: nothing different to what England did to Germany for the '06 finals voting. What goes around...

Media: a state controlled media in a nation run by the Mafia > a free(r/ish) press regularly exposing FIFA as a corrupt organisation

FIFA's known desire for spreading the love: new host > England's bid revolving around history, Becks' grandpa...

Host nation security: Well nobody was murdered in SA - Russia will have cops everywhere as per SA and will prolly introduce a similar quick-trial process. Would rather take my chances there than with the chavvy "Watchya car mistah?!" pcunts who know they won't even be charged if caught.

The final hours: working their asses doing deals up to the last minute > backslapping thinking they'd won

Presenters: a Ruskie woman that looks good in tight shorts > a Prince cracking jokes about his wedding

You either play their game or don't. None of this is any different to what happens in business, politics...so the bitching about it after the event is utterly LOLzworthy. The 'Let's leave FIFA' brigade is just embarrassing.
