Serial winner Jose Mourinho wins his 5th European trophy. Pleased for him, think he's a really good fit for Roma. Didn't work out at Spurs of course but the two parties were never well matched.

I always thought he was underrated, but at the time never thought we was good enough to take Chelsea from where they were, to the title. Whereas there was an expectation, when Lukaku arrived, that he would. Of course, it didn't work out that way.

I always thought Abraham would have been a decent replacement for Kane at Spurs 12 months ago should he have moved to City. Arsenal are looking for a forward this summer to replace the departing Lacazette and departed Aubameyang, Abraham would be a sensible choice.

Yep - the usual suspects silent of course although I’m sure they’ll return at some point

Real Madrid have played in over a quarter of all European Cup and Champions League finals in history

I'm delighted that Mourinho can display such hubris in winning the Europa Conference League. At least he's content in accepting his level.

Yeah it is a meaningless competition.

Think you need to re-read what I posted

Never said it was a meaningless competition. Its a great achievement for Roma but lets not forget, Roma are the Italian equivalent of Everton, the occasional title back in the day and a Cup win every 15 years or so.

10 years ago, Mourinho would have considered managing a club like that as beneath him.

Find it more amusing he’s won everywhere aside from Spurs. Fair enough they didn’t want to keep him but still find it madness they sacked him 6 days before a final

Predicting Roma to have a strong season next year before collapsing the season after. It’s textbook Mourinho

Roma may have to contend with fending off offers for their better players.

Not so sure that is true after Spurs, I think he was looking for a club that would suit him and his personality rather than the biggest club out there. The experience humbled him a bit which in truth is what he needed.

The Spurs job was such an awful fit for him so why not go to a failing club like Roma and have a bit of control and influence at all levels? Like you say, Roma don't really win too much and in one season he has managed to win a European trophy and finished in a respectable league position so all in all it has been a great move for both parties. Not sure they have a lot of money so I wouldn't expect them to push on too much more but I think his reputation is pretty much restored now.

His reputation is that it all goes to shit in season 3.

I'd suggest he's content at Roma because he feels he's bigger than the club.

Problem with Mourinho (I’m sure people could find others  ) is he needs a really specific set of players to fully operate, strong willed players who take responsibility for failings as he doesn’t do that himself

His Chelsea teams did and is why he was so successful there. United had some but not enough and Spurs really lack that (although they have started a much needed clear out with some decent signings last summer). In essence, he’s inflexible in terms of the group he can work with and with the way footballers are nowadays, he’s struggled to react. Seem a decent enough group at Roma though

It is hard to maintain a long reign when you have the personality he has, it will naturally grate on the players and upper management over time. Prety sure if you asked Roma a year ago if they would accept two decent seasons and a trophy followed by a poor season they'd have bitten your hand off.

I think Mourinho's next managerial move should be to take over the Portuagal national side. I think he would do really well due to the lack of time he would be spending with the players.

I'd think you're correct and as long as he is successful he will be allowed to think that. It was similar at Chelsea wasn't it? At least at first.

People wouldn’t like it but I’ve no doubt he’d win a major tournament with England

I agree. I think you have to be better tactically in International football rather than trying to build a side, as you react to what is available rather than trying to develop a team like you would from club level. Tactically speaking, he is one of, if not, the best in the world, even now.

Its his arrogance that seems to rile fans up, but he has earned the right to boast his major awards given the successful career he has had. The only really poor job was at Spurs, I didn't even think he did that badly at United.
