Another game where the ex-Liverpool player pundits outnumber anyone else. Poor Peter Schmeichel sandwiched between Carragher and Souness. How does this middling club still have so much clout?

Schmeichel is an absolute abortion of a pundit. Even Dwight 'Wazza' Yorke is better than him.

And so is Carragher.

1)He's hard to understand
2)He had the audacity to have a go at John Stones for doing a Cruyff turn in his own penalty area.

Klopp is a great manager, but sometimes the face has to fit the club so to speak. Liverpool will not be the club for him.....just an opinion mind. I don't think United would have been either. Arsenal would have been a good fit.

But Klopp came with a reputation of bringing on players who weren't necessarily household names. So you would think he's a good fit for Liverpool.

I think there was a great pool of German youngsters for a period. Bit like Wenger with all the untapped young French talent a while back.
I might be wrong but I think he has a massive job on his hands there.

I'm with papes on this one, he's very likeable. What did he do to end up there, though :x

From the Liverpool United game, they're a solid team with the cutting-edge penetration of Ian Royal.

Have they really just given Mingolet a 5 year contract! I guess he'll be ok as a number 2, but surely they're looking at replacing him.

For my money he was probably Rodgers biggest mistake at Liverpool.

I read a stat yesterday that since 2013 or something like that he's kept the most clean sheets except for Joe Hart.

He's a much better keeper than he makes himself look. A bit like Grobbelaar.

He's usually a cracking shotshtopper, but he makes a load of mistakes and too frequently for me. Not necessarily ones that give away goals, but ones that must effect the confidence of those in front of him.

As for making the most cleansheets, no idea if that's true or not, but it's probably one of those pointless stats that doesn't really tell you too much. Cleansheets are about so much more than just the keepers ability too.

From what I've seen of him - when he's good he's very good, but when he's bad he's like Adam Bogdan.

The clean sheets stat looks correct, although it's joint second, but in context of the rest of those stats it doesn't read well.

I imagine he's probably made more appearances than most keepers in that time too, so again, without that context it's a bit misleading and pointless.

The first part of this is really, somewhat, fucking naive.

Football is an O-ring game. The weakest link is the most important. As pointed out, clean sheets are an aggregate of several players contributions. Mistakes are much more likely to determine the fate of a game, not only for goals conceded directly, but from conceding of possession and the confidence of the players around the keeper.

(for a similar-ish story about the use of clean sheet statistics, the Brazilian keeper in '02, Marcos, was approached by a European club the aftermath of that world cup. He'd conceded four goals in seven games. It transpired he'd been injured all tournament and had simply not been tested ... )

Klopp and the Liverpool fans didn't care about the League Cup a couple of months back. Now its really important. Funny that.
