Tredder 12 days into the new year and not a single post from AndyRFC or Finerain, can't think why.

Not been a bad 2010/11 for Tredder though really, as one of the half dozen teams he supports actually achieved something this season, so he probably has forgotten that he 'supports' CeLOLtic.

Problem for celtic is how do you differentiate between 'sectarian' singing and traditional singing?

Finerain, do you consider Rangers fans supporting/singing songs about the British Army sectarian? If not then it's easy for Rangers fans:

BA songs: not sectarian
UDA songs: sectarian

It's a lot harder for Celtic as a club and community to differentiate between singing about the old 1920s IRA which was tbf Irelands version of the British army in the 20s, (this is now recognised by even the Queen in the wreath laying ceremonies) and the headbangers in the CIRA/RIRA.

When Celtic fans sing IRA are they remembering the struggle for independence in the 20s or expressing support for the CIRA and continued armed struggle today?

I think in light of the Queens visit the first isn't sectarian (or no more sectarian then songs abut the British Army) but the second is.

They sing songs about the IRA (modern or otherwise) to provoke and offend. A scummy thing to do by a set of scummy knuckle dragging supporters.

They were at it again for the cup final, commentator reluctantly referred to it at half time. It is inflammatory and they know it.

Some do it to provoke I'm sure, but there are many who go out of their way to explain how they hate sectarianism (take a look at any copy of Green Brigade's fanzine) but also sing these songs. How do you explain that?

So when it's 'Ten German Bombers' its football banter but when its 'Celtic symphony' its sectarian bigotry?

I don't dislike 'Ten German Bombers' personally and its actually sung quite a lot by St Pauli fans to wind up Nazis in Germany. I just don't see why everyone gets so worked up about Celtic when fans all over the country sing really offensive stuff all the time.

I never said anything about 'Ten German Bombers' a song I actually find kind of annoying.

IRA stuff is unforgivable considering in the very recent past they murdered scores of innocent civilians and it's sung in a context of hatred unrelated to football.
