That would probably be because of all the bonus payments for being successful, which they were, and coupled with him being a free transfer and so his contract including the 'transfer fee' that wasn't going to a club.
Still a daft situation though!

HMRC reporting that Pompie owe £11.5M, rather than the £7M previously reported
cardiff owe around £2M and southend £210 000 which may explain why customer are happy to let them have another 28 days
