6ft Kerplunk Yeah, that's not the reason why he didn't make it at Man U is it.

I'd suggest it is. Him and Zidanne were rated by fans

Has he not worked out? It's not unusual tbf! Tyler Blackett was also a prospect

I do keep an eye out for former Utd academy players

He's becoming a very good L1 player with potential for the Championship and beyond, but saying Utd let him go just because of Mainoo puts Utd's youth standard ambitions at Champ/L1 level.

He's a decent player who should end up playing at least at Championship level. He was never going to be good enough for United.
Not convinced Tyler Blackett would have had a career any higher than League 1 if there hadn't been an injury crisis at Untied meaning he got a few first team games. That and the he's come through the United Academy that was good 30 years ago tag still seems to get players a few years at clubs higher than they warrant.

I thought he was 18 when he went to yous! You're right, he had hit the age (20/21) that if he wasn't in the first team he'd be moved on.

A younger better player (Mainoo, Coyler etc) coming through in his position obvs makes the decision easy. Hope he does well tho!

Yeah, he was lucky (as a youth) that it was Van Gaal and not Jose in charge!

As for the academy...(killing a bit of time before my flight)

Evans, Rashford, Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad are regulars in the current squad

The current under-18s are breaking records and are considered better than the '92 class...we'll see how it pans out I s'pose!

Former academy graduate Ashley Westwood lived across the road from me in Manchester. Used to go with him and his dad to Man City games (and junior blues parties), my dad would take us to Utd games. He played for Shef Wed and Bradford in the prem!

Greenwood, Pogba and Ravel Morrison who on their day are/were considered world-class but a bit mental

- Elanga is doing well at Forest,
- Wellbeck at Brighton
- Garner, Keane & McNeil at Everton,
- Gomes England and Lille
- Henderson at Palace
- Tuanzebe at Palace
- McToninay at Naples
- Pereira at Fulham
- Lingard, decent enough

Championship and below

- Mengi & Chong at Luton,
- Williams at Norwich,
- Joel Pereira at some tin-pot Berkshire team
about 20+ others

Retired

Fletcher
O'Shea
Wes Brown

Danny Drinkwater (1 more prem medal than Gerrard)
Tom Cleverly
Ryan Shawcross
Danny Simpson
Huddlestone
Frazier Campel
Darren Gibson
G. Rossi
J. Spector
McShane
Ebanks-Blake
Bardsley
Eagles
David Jones
L. Chadwick
D. Healy

Then you start getting into '92 era!

A lot of players who had decent careers at a good level but only 6/7 that 'are/were' of Utd standard!

Have to say my early impressions of Amorim are very positive.

Comes across as a very likeable, genuine and intelligent guy.

LUX L Chadwick eventually found a decent club.

my most memorable thing about LC is that he joined when I was on a snowboarding holiday and there was a loud, rough & ready family in the resort and we were getting ready to sit down to eat one night and there was a tv up in one corner with football on and I was watching it. the kid from the rough family, in a Man Utd top, tried talking to me about football and I briefly engaged politely, we then sat down at our table and he went off to his. It was pretty quiet so you could hear what was going on and the big fat dad said loudly to the kid 'ask him which team he supports' so the kid came over and asked me, as many diners looked on, I quietly said Reading, then added 'Luke Chadwick just joined us a few days ago from your club'. he went back and relayed this to his dad, who really loudly said to his son 'Luke Chadwick is sh*t. Go and tell him Luke Chadwick is sh*t, and tell him that his new club is really f*cking sh*t!'. I seem to remember the kid looking pretty mortified, started coming over to me with the message, then realised that was silly, so just kind of stood there, looked embarrassed, then turned around and went and sat back down again.

anyway, Chadwick was just fine for us

Yes indeed

Heard him speak before the Tottenham game and was very pleasantly surprised. Expected a dour, bitter and serious character.

Instead he seemed very decent. Relaxed, modest, humble and charismatic.

Also he's dropped Rashford which is a great start

Don't support or have any fondness for man united just for the record.

Do you lot have a point deduction coming up or something? I've seen people talk of relegation. Seems a bit odd as you're in and around the play-off positions

What was the last Reading game that you went to?

This and that, being a Reading FC based website and all that?

Just asking for a friend

The 'sounds like a fcuking idiot' is a meme from Richard Herring. It's light-hearted, not entirely sure that's what you're doing.

If so fair enough, water off a duck's back
