My favourite bit of trivia about Aberdeen is that Pittodrie is Scots Gaelic for dung heap.

From Despair To Where? Celtic do look a class apart though.
Big fish, small pond syndrome.

Could barely hold their own in the Championship.

But that's completely irrelevant. You could say that of the best team in pretty much every country with a population of 5 million.

…..and there was me remembering those days when both Celtic and Rangers were being considered to be included in the Premier League

5 million…even more so the big fish, small pond credentials

Their claims to join the Premiership were always fanciful and no-one outside Glasgow took it remotely seriously. It was all about money.

Yeah, they're big fish in a small pond but is somewhere like Portugal, with double the population, (90 seasons, 3 clubs winning 88 of them) any different?

Well yeah, not different at all (except double the population), but in my time, Celtic have only had to share the title (and not recently) with one other team.
Last night will hurt, they’ll bounce back…..Champions elect.

Agreed, really could do with Rangers NOT being a total non event again. Really hoping that Aberdeen might prove to be more than just a bright start though. Trouble is if they do then Celtic (& Rangers) will likely just buy up all their useful players next summer and we'll all return to the usual boredom.

Be no surprise if Clement gets the sack after this one.

back to point.

Rangers already have to better Celtic (and/or the unlikely Aberdeen) by at least two wins to win the title. Even at this early stage of the season, it’s safe to say it’s not going to happen.

That's the sort of performance that could get Derek McInnes the job at Ibrox. Kilmarnock have had a poor start to the season, mainly because of their European excursions, which started in July but they're now 5 unbeaten having lost their first 3 fixtures (two of which were Celtic and Aberdeen).

They are usually hard to beat, lacking only a decent goalscorer, and play good football.

As Spizz says, Rangers will have to beat Celtic at least twice this season. They've only managed it once in the past 2 seasons and that was when Celtic had already sewn up the title.

I guess it must be very rare for Hearts and Hibs to be the bottom 2 when playing their local derby (next Sunday).

They both got relegated in 2013-14 then finished 1st and 2nd in the Championship the following season (ahead of Rangers).

Another win for Aberdeen, this time over Rangers, sees them stay level with Celtic at the top.

9 wins and a draw in their first 10 games

Draw at Celtic and a win over Rangers, you have to say Aberdeen are title contenders up there now.

It is actually great to see one of the "other" clubs in Scotland being rewarded for thinking outside the box a little and making a very astute managerial appointment

The provisio in Scotland is always do clubs outside the Old Firm have the squad depth to maintain a challenge? Aberdeen have an excellent manager and a decent, well organised squad but I think Celtic will eventually pull away because the have the quality and the depth.

I can see Aberdeen splitting Celtic and Rangers because Rangers look so ponderous and just don't have the money to make significant changes.

They're a bit of a shambles on and off the field at the moment. Their squad is significantly worse than 2 years ago, they're lost more money last year than most of the SPL have as an annual budget and the SFA have just pulled their pants down to the tune of £700k to borrow Hampden for 3 games.
