Yes, I said nearly and posted a link - didn't you have a look. Niger actually is latin for black. Ian seemed to imply that Nigger was derived from the country Niger.

Not all african people are black Spacey, you get a fair few shades and there are several distinct races within the continent.

FiNeRaIn I hear a lot of noise, but not many words coming out buddy. Its people like you who have taken away free speech from a once proud country.

I don't hate anyone, skin colour means nothing to me. There are various religions I don't like, but thats MY RIGHT.

So we are supposed to respect your rights, whilst you don't accept the rights of others? I think we get the picture.

Where have you fathomed that i don't respect the rights of others?

You are trying to deny free speach, im not denying anyone anything.

ZacNaloen Christ, it's just Bigotism.

Racism refers specifically to what Race you are. It's a very specific phrase, referring to a very specific type of Bigotism. That being based on race.

Paki is racist because anyone from South Asia was getting called it, the racists weren't discriminating based on country of origin but by the colour of skin of the people they were scared of and paki was the word chosen.

"oxf*rd Brit" is not racist. It's just Bigoted.

The ignorance of the Irish who think British is a race and how much venom they put into such comments is irrelevent.

It's not like Xenophobia is in any way more acceptable than Racism.

Words can, and have, changed meaning and I believe this is a good case in point.

No, this really isn't.

You cannot be racist against your own race.

Exactly. I don't care what a bunch of half-wit morons think when they use it in a derogatory manner. It simply isn't racism. Brit is a term for someone of a nation, not a race. Not a hard concept. No one is saying it isn't derogatory or offensive when used in a certain context. It just can't be called racism and compared to nigger and paki.

So, so wrong.

Pretending everyone is the same just perpetuates problems

Are you trying to tell me that Samoan's have all the same genetic traits as Scandanavians or mainland South-East Asians? Because I think you might need to take a look at some pictures.

I overheard a fairly interesting conversation on a train once where a guy was complaining bitterly about the perception of everyone being equal and the concept of equality in modern society. He was saying that it is patently obvious that people are not born equal and do not stay equal throughout life.

He was saying that what we should really concentrate on is equity, where all are treated fairly, not equally. At least I think that was the gist. It's kinda hard to disagree with it as well.
