Franchise FC
No Fixed Abode Rio Ferdinand has referred to Ashley Cole as a 'choc ice' on Twitter.......oh dear......

Presumably Rio will be charged with racist abuse.

I'm actually quite sure that if you were caught chanting "choc ice" at Cashley from the stands, then you would be nicked for Racist Abuse.

However, as Rio Ferdinand is a thick footballer, I expect him to get away with it!

He didn't say it, someone else called Cole it, sent it to Rio, who then LOL'd at it and agreed.

Whilst true - he was very silly to tweet that.

JT was found not guilty by the Courts, yet the likes of Ferdinand and many other black players still think he's guilty. The FA must stamp out this 'playing the race card' thing once and for all.

Except the court case was about racism

This charge is because he's an abusive twat, which he admitted to in court

The standard of proof required is different, and lower, than in a criminal court - and the charge, under FA rules, is quite different to the criminal charge of which he was acquitted, so there is no contradiction there.

He should be if the FA are going to be tough on foul and abusive comments directed at each other and officials on the pitch.

I see that Rio has appealed against his charge on the grounds that his comment wasn't a racist term, just slang for being 'fake'.

A very interesting and, in my opinion accurate, comment on the BBC's article:

John Amaechi - Former NBA basketball player, psychologist and educator It is the idea that a black person is black only in skin colour but inside they are really white. It's a highly derogatory term. It's a dangerous term because it allows black boys especially but black people in general, to believe that there is a way of being black that is somehow distinct from being white. There are people that think if you don't wear a certain type of clothing or listen to a certain type of music you're not really black. It's a really dangerous thing. There are black boys who do less well in school because they believe by doing well there, they are acting white. To me, this is devastating for black boys and black people everywhere. It's a deeply offensive term with racial connotations."

Rio's an idiot. He should have said he meant it sarcastically.

Or that he said "I didn't say" just before he tweeted.

Anton Ferninand also admitted in court that he had been an abusive twat. Indeed, Ferdinand admitted starting the abusive twattery.

Sadly, the abuse (minus the racism) which was revealed in court is normal at most levels of the game.
