BRO_BOT From Despair To Where? Bit of a General Sport crossover but I look at what Ratcliffe has done with Ineos Grenadiers in the cycling and I do get the feeling he has absolutely zero clue about running a sports team.
What has he done? Is it worth looking up? If you cba to summarize it'd be appreciated
Yes, there's been horrible luck with injuries to marquee riders but in 5 years he's taken a team who were at the forefront of world cycling with a roster of young exiting riders, with an emphasis on growing British talent and a track record 12 grand tour wins in 8 years (including 7 Tour de France with 4 different riders), and turned them into a retirement home for aging riders who might pick up the odd stage win when everyone else can't be arsed and may sneak a rider into the Top 10 if half the contenders fall off.
I don't know how hamstrung he is by the Glazers but he seems to be doing a lot of ineffectual tinkering around the edges without actually addressing the fundamental issues at the club.
All he really needs to do is not he the Glazers to keep the fans somewhat inside but this removal of concessions just looks like a massive own goal. The whole story since his arrival seems to be all about slashing costs. And then there's shit like triggering Ten Hag's contract extension when he's already under fire and then sacking him 3 months later. I get that he'd won the FA Cup but that's small beer for a club with United's expectations. Trigger the extension in November if you're challenging the Top 4, not before
