Stranded Orion1871 Jamie Carragher.
“This Real Madrid team will not win the champions league, absolutely no chance to win the champions league”
Michael Owen: “Liverpool could genuinely blow away Real Madrid tomorrow. My prediction is 3-1 or 3-0.”
TBF to Owen, if Courtois doesn't have one of those nights, that is a 3 or 4-1 game.
He did though.
That sums the game up well enough.
Liverpool do have a problem (albeit that most other clubs have much bigger problems) when it comes to a packed defence and Real Madrid, contrary to their historical record of playing free-flowing, attacking football, played like an Italian side of old under an old Italian manager.
I think it is because of the intricacy of the passing which has to be perfect to succeed that lets them down however, just as with Barcelona and City the top clubs tend to just keep playing the same way as for most of the time in the end it works-on rare occasions it doesn't..
Last night Real Madrid often had 2 defenders on the wide players of Liverpool Salah, Diaz and Mane which meant that none of them could get a one-on-one run which they are so good at.
Courtois was clearly bitter about how he was allowed to leave Chelsea and he made it clear in his interview that he felt that he had made his point which he surely did...and some.
If I were a spin doctor I would be saying that but for 2 keepers in Karius and Courtois Liverpool might now be 8 times winners.
So, not a bad season for arguably (Michael Owen might have struggled to expand his view) the best team in Europe with 2 domestic cup wins and 1 point behind the league winners in what is thought to be the most competitive domestic football in world football and then runners-up in the top non-domestic cup competition in world football.
All-in-all an ok season that almost every club in football would bite their hand off for.
