Winchester City 3-2 Cirencester Town

Winch were three up, before conceding 2 goals late on and giving us a scare.

Unbeaten in 2019, and up to 7th. The play offs beckon IF we can maintain this consistency and not drop daft points.
The form tables are looking better, and we are 4th on away performance, but have only won 4 at home, and that is not good enough for promotion.

Wantage 2-0 Windsor.

A number of 1st choice players missing but very little to get the pulse racing about yesterday’s performance really. As for Wantage they appear to be very well organised and strong at the back but another one of the title contenders who haven’t impressed me all that much.

None of the Top 5 look a patch on recent Champions in Windsor’s league (Combined Counties or Hellenic).

Terminal Boardom The good people of Eastbourne Town are extremely pissed off with Brighton & Hove Albion and the Sussex FA. They were due to meet this week in a Sussex Senior Cup Tie but Brighton called the game off as they could not raise a team (Under 23s of course). Had a non-league side called the game off, they would, no doubt, have been kicked out of the competition. The Susses FA, being made of slightly weaker stuff and completely lacking any sort of backbone, rolled over and said ok.

That's ridiculous, how can they not raise a team when they've got an Academy full of young players.

Yeah that's bullshit. Sussex FA should have thrown them out immediately.

- we made the lengthy trundle down beyond Brighton, to an SCFL-Premier game (ex-Sussex league)
Peacehaven & Telscombe 1-2 Langney Wanderers.
- not a bad ground - had to be 'upgraded to meet STEP04 when they managed promotion and a very brief stay a few years back.
- Visitors were one of the Eastbourne-based sides - now groundsharing at Borough.
- will need to come back this way to 'tick' two more sides locally, should we wish to complete this league: - Saltdean Utd and Rottingdean grounds are both very close by.
Will wait for better weather and on a Saturday when the 'biggest club in the S of England' are away - traffic round the Amex was a bit solid - and they were only hosting the Baggies in the Cup on Sat.

Bracknell beat Infantry FC 9-0 last night in a friendly. Not sure what the point of the game was or why they played such weak opposition but there we go.

FA Vase 5th Round: Sholing 3-1 Sporting Khalsa

My 8th Vase game of the season, taking in a game in every round so far. Been to some excellent games in this seasons competition, but I made a bad choice in heading to Sholing.

Started off by heading the usual route to the coast via Basingstoke. Mistake. I hadnt looked at the net since the previous afternoon and the weather issues there completely passed me by. The A33 was in an appalling state from about Wellington onwards. Only just about made it through!

On arrival at the ground they were asking you to park in a thawing field. Er, no thanks! Parked half a mile away, arrived back at ground at 2pm. No programmes. Then they had the cheek to charge 50p for a team sheet hastily printed on some damp paper. Lots of disgruntled punters. Hopeless queues for a cup of tea. It just felt like the club made no effort to host the occasion.

Very basic ground that's unloved and really lacks any kind of facilities.

The game then proved pretty low key, it felt like most of the subdued 433 crowd were neutrels. Sholing seemed all about set pieces, which they clearly work on, and long balls over the top. A formula that clealry works for them. 2 points dropped in the league all season.

MOTM went to ex Reading Peter Castle. He is the youngest player ever to play for Reading at 16 years & 49 days when he came on as a sub at Watford 16 years ago.

Royal Rother Biggleswade v Windsor - Game ON after passing pitch inspection.

0-0 HT.

New holes ripped 2nd half - FT 6-1 with Windsor’s goal a late consolation penalty.

Biggleswade looked a very good team. Excellent central defensive partnership that rarely gave us a sniff and anticipated / cleared everything, and a real game plan going forward which created so much space time after time. They also scored some cracking goals.

Disappointing but you have to admire a good young team which looks like it can go places.

Tidy ground, lots of parking.

Crowd 557.

4 Sholing 3-1 Sporting Khalsa att 441
6 {Sun 3rd} Biggleswade FC {SIX} 6-1 Windsor
- got up to this - heeded advice from 'home' clubs' twitter re road closures close to the ground on the 'normal' way in off the A1 via the town. Came off an exit early and wound steadily up the B659 through Langford. Arr about 1/2 hr before KO - parking was well-stewarded.
Bar decent size but not that well-stocked. Food van did well.
Chatted to 'Big H' in the bar beforehand - game was even first half - indeed Windsor closed the period on top and threatening.
Hosts came out 2nd half transformed - whether by a formation change or different angles of attack they opened up Windsor who gradually unravelled.
- Three goals in the last 10' over-glossed the performance somewhat but it's easy to see why this side is roaring along near the top of the South Mids Premier; they welcome current leaders Hadley to Langford Rd next Saturday.
Q-F Draw on Monday - would be interesting to see these paired vs Chertsey (CCL) or Sholing (WESSEX) , who are both at or nr the head of their respective leagues - as indeed are Willand (Western) .

7 Willand Rovers 3-2 Deeping Rangers att 776
8 Canterbury City 2-1 Leicester Nirvana att 334

NATS
Chelmsford City 4-1 Hungerford TownCrusaders have slumped to 2nd bottom now and are 5 points behind Dulwich Hamlet

IL1-SC
Hayes & Yeading United {EIGHT} 8-1 Hertford Town – H&Y now 12 points clear of 2nd placed Marlow Bracknell are a point further back. The leaders have a staggering +73 GD and have scored 95 league goals, with a 100% home record.
- In a full program midweek HandY go to Northwood; – 'Robins' are at bottom club Egham and Marlow are just inside the Orbital at Uxbridge.

Tooting & Mitcham United 3-0 Egham Town

SLP-S
Weymouth 1-2 Basingstoke Townmajor shock here with relegation threatened Dragons pulling off an unexpected win at 2nd placed Terras. Visitors were 2 up with Weymuff’s goal an injury time consolation pen. ‘stoke leap up four places to 16th – host 3rd placed Salisbury on Tuesday 5th

Walton & Hersham 0-2 Horley Town
CCL1
FC Deportivo Galicia 2-3 Godalming Town

WESS1

Floodlit Cup Action for Windsor last night, coming hot on the heels of the stuffing at Biggleswade.

Lydney 1-3 Windsor

2 more for Dan Roberts and one for Barry Hayles.

That is a very good turnaround in fortunes, and the few who made the 200+ mile round trip were nicely appreciated by the players and management who had a whip round to buy everyone a burger and a pint - this was announced prior to making the trip.

I know it is an topic that has been brought up probably numerous times before but why should amateur players have to fund that sort of trip for themselves? Leave work early to get there and stuff. It is a scandal.

In this case (and with the other trips of 80+ miles - there’s a lot of them in the Hellenic) the club put on a coach but the point is still valid as they will have missed at least part of a day’s work yesterday.

A 5% levy on all PL players’ salaries for a grass roots fund to support NL clubs would change the face of the game. But the PL and its millionaires would scream and scream and scream until they are sick (thick for those that remember Violet Elizabeth) so it’s idealistic fantasy of course.

Call it realism, cynicism or just plain old jealousy if you like but I can’t help thinking that these plans are just too big too quick.

2500 but seeing as it is all flat terracing with no gradient I suspect only half that number would actually see a ball kicked.
