NathStPaul Wouldn't even surprise me that's the sad thing. Absolute basketcase of a club.

You could argue that their approach has worked for them and, perhaps to a lesser degree, a similar approach by Chelsea over the years.

Trouble with it is that there’s no long term success with either club when you’re so trigger happy

Klopp didn’t get Liverpool going for a while at the start of his tenure. Pep at City had a pretty disappointing first season. Not sure either of those would have lasted at Chelsea with the results but both clubs have achieved longer term success as a result whereas Chelsea’s always seem to be short lived with a new cycle

Watford should have stuck with Pearson IMO - think they’d have reaped longer term benefits if they did

Your examples are of bigger clubs.
Watford have had 2 (?) promotions doing things this way so the system might be regarded as a success.

It hasn't worked for us or most other clubs but Watford and Leeds haven't done so badly.
Planning for long term is another matter altogether and English professional football has about as much planning as our dire government.

Part of a discussion I caught on Saturday on 5Live was the Italian way of ownership is to categorise managers, which is why they interchange so frequently. So you have managers regarded as second tier promotion managers, lower Serie A survival experts, championship winners etc. I guess similar to here, but the classification amongst the owners is more recognised/formal, so they'd be more inclined to ditch a lower tier promotion winner early the following season (as Watford have done) after a not too terrible start, in favour of moving up the manager tiers with Ranieri.

Expect they'll bring someone in sharpish, but have had a few quid on Jones at 50/1 and 66/1, so would be lovely if they wait until Jan.

They'll appoint someone unsuitable no doubt. I think Gerrard would be their best bet for a long term appointment but I have a feeling he is going to hang around at Rangers until Klopp leaves Liverpool.

Look at the league table, he's likely to have been sacked this season with or without the takeover. Goes with the territory of being a manager, you're unlikely to go through your whole career without getting sacked and its not like he's a Ferguson/Guardiola/Klopp is it. He's quite happily quit to move to a better job when its suited him.

Yeh, I'd like to see Gerrard get it. Fonseca would be a poor choice imo. Seems to have done the usual Portuguese manager thing of changing jobs every year or two without achieving a great deal, other than with Shakhtar, where I imagine it's harder to not win the league.

7 wins in 38 games. 0 in 9 this season. He deserved nothing but the sack.

Bruce: “I think it might be my last job. It has been very, very tough. To never really be wanted, to feel that people wanted me to fail & saying I would fail, that I was useless, a fat waste of space, a tactically inept cabbage head”
