Sanguine Was surprised Gomez didn't start at centre-back - not the first time Klopp has made a tactical change at the back, having dropped him for Lovren at Watford. I don't get it myself. Liverpool have conceded something like five in 16 games when Van Dijk and Gomez start together.
(Not that Matip did anything wrong, and is probably one of the most under-rated players in the PL).

Sanguine Some slightly ridiculous defensive numbers coming out of Liverpool's game vs. Palace - as much as it was an easy win and Palace didn't get much of a sniff, you credit Van Dijk and Gomez for much of the latter. They touched the ball 273 times between them, of which a slightly mind-boggling 260 were passes, and 239 of those were accurate (92%) ; they also won ten aeriel duels and made seven interceptions between them, and neither was dispossessed.
Alisson didn't touch the ball with his hands in open play.

Yeah, Van Dijk and Gomez seem a very good partnership, as you alluded to recently
Obviously it helped having Zaha go off injured but you can only beat what’s in front of you and once again, Liverpool’s back five gave very little away
Think they’ll need more depth in the fullback areas this summer, but that comes down to many different factors, Williams looked lively in his brief appearance today

Sanguine Also read this morning that Palace didn't touch the ball in Liverpool's penalty area.
