Vision Pompey now believed to have asked the Premier League for special dispensation to sell players outside the transfer window.

They don't need dispensation to sell, they can at anytime. The player can't play anywhere else though so the other clubs would need the dispensation to play them. This would have to come from UEFA/FIFA I would guess rather than the PL.

rabidbee
Terminal Boardom Anyone who chosses to live near an existing football ground gets little if any sympathy from me.

Ditto people who buy cheap a house near an airport and then try to have it closed.

Or people who buy a house near a sewage treatment works and then complain about the odour.

I guess they could sell them, trouser the cash, then get them back on emergency loan???

It just opens up yet another can of worms!

There are no emergency loans in the PL though.

It woud give Pompey - and the buying club also - an unfair advantage.

Anyway, it's FIFA's rules, not the local competition organisers.

Pompey - the story just gets more rediculous every day.

Surely this is a UEFA decision not a PL one?

It's a FIFA one as they are the one who impose the transfer window system.

Consider myself corrected. The point is - it's not in the PL's remit to grant this. So - go fcuk yourselves Pompey!

Although I suspect the correct channels for a club wanting to get exceptions made to rules would be via their national competition hierarchy who would then take the request to the next authority up if they couldn't deal with it, so Pompey may be follwoing correct procedures. Not that that should make any difference to whether they are allowed.

Are there any precedents amongst the many other clubs who have got into financial difficulty I wonder ?

"Meanwhile, a financial expert says Portsmouth face a very real threat of extinction because of their financial problems and he believes administration is an unlikely option. 'Arguably, the level of debt associated with this case will mean that it is unlikely that a suitable or willing benefactor will be found,' said Simon Wilson, a partner with restructuring experts Zolfo Cooper. 'Portsmouth therefore face the very real threat of liquidation because it is increasingly unlikely that an administration order will be sought or granted.'"

Ouch!

Surely they could just "sell" the player now (but wont move till the next window) and at least prove they have the funds coming in at the end of the season.........

Oh why can't it be Hull?

I just can't stand the club or that little perma-tanned creep of a manager.

That would mean the player couldn't then play any games. May not be very popular with the player !!

They could sign a pre-contract agreement for a set figure or basically complete the sale without transfering the registration of the player (if that's legal with third party ownerships etc) and then ring fence that cash to go to whoever on completion.

I don't think it would generate enough money to keep the creditors at bay, but you never know.

I think the only way it could work is if they were allowed to transfer players to other clubs in lieu of repayment of debt to that club. I suspect if they sold a player but deferred transfer of the registration they would get hit by the third party issue, plus I can;t see a club being willing to hand over cash and not get the registration. Bit like you expecting someone to pay for your house but not giving them the deeds !

I mean have a pre-contract in place........you can put a bid in for players whenever you like but the deal doesn't go through until the transfer window is open again, so they could sell some players this way and say to the courts "look we'll be getting £10m from them in June" etc
