Re: Team GB @ The Olympics

I had the misfourtune of listening to Talksport for a bit this morning. One comment from a NI supporter was that, if Beckham deserved a place in the squad for what he's done for England over the years, why isn't David Healy in the squad for all he's done for NI.

Pepe the Horseman When's the team officially announced then?

The deadline is the 6th or 7th July I think.

Maguire
11.30 from paddington Seb Coe must be doing his nut over the fact Beckham isn't selected. The football tickets are amongst the slowest sellers and as others have said, Beckham would've attracted a few more buyers.

As someone said yday - if you let Beckham play football then you might as well stick Seb Coe in the 1500m.

Oh, I agree. Sadly, it doesn't detract from the fact that a large number of people will buy football tickets just because Beckham is playing.

Not in the Men's Group games (unless you want a single ticket) but there are a reasonable amount left for the Q/Fs etc.....but you'll just have to guess where we'll come in Group A though!

Beckham is so far past it it's a fcuking insult to every other eligible player to suggest he should be picked.

TalkSport can fcuk right off - what a bunch of tossers.

He's 38.

He's also played nearly 40 games for one of Europes premier sides over the last season, and done so pretty well too.

I agree with that although Man U fans think he is some what past it too although maybe they are comparing his current performances to those in his prime ofcourse.

BTW The Welsh fans don't seem too chuffed that their players have opted to play whilst the Scottish and N.Irish FA warned their players not too...

I suspect Bale,Bellamy and co might face some sort of blacklash from Wales.

Giggs has been shown up in the last 2 years Champions League as being past it as well, just not as far past it as Beckham.

None of the Scottish players have made the final 18 and there were no northern ireland players in the final 35, so that rules Rhodes out

No, no, no!! If GB and Brazil win their groups and then their Q/Fs (which they really should!) I'll see a Brazil v Team GB s/f at Old Trafford....knowing my luck it'll be Senegal v Belarus!

His injury has coincided with his new contract, so perhaps it was something they agreed on to keep him right for Spurs?

Well, it's a FIFA tournament isn't it? So I assume the usual rules would apply wrt team doctors having access to players rather than them (or their teams) just saying "ooh, I'm injured, soz and that"

I think the squad just announced was:

Steele, Butland

Richards, Caulker, Tomkins, Bertrand, Taylor, Dawson

Ramsey, Allen, Giggs, Cleverly, Cork, Sinclair, Rose

Sordell, Sturridge, Bellamy

Edit: I don't know what Pearce see's in Danny Rose, but he played him a lot for the U21's and has included him in this squad which just strikes me as a bit odd as he was useless for the U21s.

Shame for England that Josh McEachran wasn't included, as it would've been interesting to see how he got along playing in the same midfield as the likes of Ramsey and Allen.
