I don't think it adds enough to be worth it. Just put goalline tech in. It's not like it couldn't be fitted at every PL ground over a summer. And you're not going to get extra officials mid-season. It could probably be extended to Champ clubs relatively easily.

And really, you only particularly need it where there are cameras present frequently to spot how accurate a decision is. And it's not like you'll be adding officials in League Two or the Conference anyway.

Having extra officials could happen tomorrow if they wanted it, what clubs would complain?
It's a job creation scheme! I'll do it, not like you have to be fit or anything, no offside judgement to make, just say if ball crosses line & look out for any set piece fouling (and ignore it if you're working for UEFA!)

You can't change the the number of officials part way through a season you lunatic. Once the season starts, you can't make changes.

Err...why not, the PL & FL could agree to have extra officials from such & such a date, if they wanted.
It's not changing any rules, it's an aid to the ref, and may put an end to many of these controversies.

Yes, better to start from beginning of season, but no reason why it couldn't be installed immediately if there are enough officials.

but we know it won't happen, coz the authorities drag their feet on this, while everyone waits & waits for goaline tech.

Not mid-way through the season, which is why I said you might as well just go straight to that, because you can't make any changes until next season anyway. Christ, it's like talking to three year olds.

Find me one example of the rules or officialling being changed mid-season and I might consider changing my mind.

They tend to have AGMs to decide on rule changes, and they happen once a year, but that doesn't mean they couldn't change the rules mid-season if they wanted to.

Something not having happened in the past doesn't mean it banned from happening in the future.

Where do you draw the line though? Who pays for this technology to be installed and maintained?

Surely you've got to have a level playing field throughout the world of football not just the Premier league. Hence why having a 5th official is far easier and fair

Why? I somehow doubt if you went to a Henley RFC rugby match you would have a Television Match Official communicating via a headset about the validity of tries scored, and it wouldn't be a problem.

I've never remotely understood that line of argument.

I'm talking bout leagues one and two etc not non-league

Why should it just be installed in the premier league? It's still the same professional game

You have to start somewhere, agreed with Rev, the 'all of football or none of it' is a stupid argument.

Its not though........cos say a "goal" is scored in a league two game yet they don't have the same technology as the Premier League. Then the same argument will just be raised that we're having now.

At least with an extra official you can do it across all leagues in every country

But only the leagues you define, right? If we are going down the route of 'all leagues', then as you no doubt know many Sunday leagues often struggle to get a full complement of officials, nevermind an extra two each.

Any solution has to be afforded - important going forward should be ensuring that the technology is made affordable for lower league clubs.

I've clearly stated "professional" not non-league/Sunday league etc........it has to be a level playing field from the Premiership down to League Two, not just the top 2 divisions that Ian Royal stated

Not worth a new thread so this can go here, Guardian has highlighted a youtube video of a David Platt bicycle-kick at City training this summer.

Brilliant technique, I guess you just don't lose that. Not bad for 46!
