Sutekh Didn't know they'd sold Maatsen, apparently Villa bought him for £37.5m

Omari went to the tractor boys for an Ipswich club record fee. Really don't understand why Villa would pay that, no way is Maatsen worth £37.5m!
This is part of the stuff the PL need to look into.
Maatsen joins Villa from Chelsea for £37.5m. Chelsea show 100% of that transfer fee in this year's accounts, Maatsen is 'home grown' (despite being Dutch) and from Chelsea's academy. However Omari Kellyman, a midfielder with two senior appearances to his name, finds himself moving from Villa to Chelsea for £19m. Kellyman is a Villa academy player, and they recognise 100% of that fee in this year's books. Meanwhile Villa only have to recognise 1/6th of Maatsen's fee this year, owing to his long contract, and Chelsea likewise have signed Kellyman to a six-year deal, and show just 1/6th of his cost in this year's accounts.
In short, both teams have bought a player, they have 'spent' a combined £56m, and both find their accounts better off this season.

This is, of course, just football's version of kicking the FFP can down the road, but with the size of PL clubs and academies, they can keep punting it along that road each summer.
Edit: Villa actually did this twice. They bought Lewis Dobbin from Everton for £10m, and sold Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for £9m.
