6ft Kerplunk
South Coast Royal I was neutral about the game but McCoist and Tyldesley were commentating for Arsenal TV, they were so one-sided in the way they looked at things

Tyldesley always shows bias towards whichever side he thinks is in the ascendancy at that moment in time.

Dreadful commentator put out to grass, quite rightly, by ITV and Silver Fox is in agreement with us.
Last night, as ever, he got talking about fighting, boxing, how big somebody is etc-I think he was bullied as a kid.

Say City got relegated, how many other teams would go down?

Would it be City + 2?

I assume so as the number of teams going up and down is agreed before the season. not sure you can start changing that mid season. easier to just dock them enough points that they take one of the allocated relegation places (like Vitesse getting an 18 point deduction in teh Netherlands last season)

some journalist matey on the football weekly podcast yesterday said due to the complexity and reaper cushions it would cause if they got a big punishment, City will get no more than a slap on the wrist. Reckons he would be surprised if the outcome of all of this was anything more than a 3 point deduction.

Based on last season, an 18-point deduction would still leave them in a CL spot. 66 points would have seen them take the last relegation place.

What complexity and repercussions?

Like that's a consideration for anyone else.

All the teams that got relegated, missed out on CL/EL, put out of a cup etc i.e. missed out on a lot of revenue

Also, you can't just hand the league titles to the team that finished second.

You quite literally can hand the team in second the title. You couod equally just say those titles are void. You're only unhappy because Liverpool would benefit.

All the rest of it, just guff that would just be ignored. No one was worrying about who Bury dumped out of a cup, or got relegated.

Just entitled whataboutism. Give the cheating pcunts their lumps. And dish out some Utd and Chelsea's way while they're at it.

Think it benefits LFC and MU equally with 2 titles each. They voided the title in the Juventus case iirc

I'm quite happy for MC to be folded btw...was just highlighting some of the potential issues they may have to deal with

Some of the offences are allegedly quite serious and the PL need to be seen to stand up for the rest of the teams in the league, if it is just a flimsy slap on the wrist I would expect the other clubs in the PL to be very very annoyed, perhaps enough to cause the existing PL, in its present form, to collapse.

Something really should be done about Chelsea. A club sailing very close to P&S issues and yet, what is it, another 10 new players this summer. Getting shot of Gallagher can't have offset that surely?

They've sold Lewis Hall, Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson for a combined £86m. Get rid of Gallagher and Chalobah and that's another £70m? All pure profit, thanks to the ridiculous PSR academy product rules. Plus some sort of dodgy deal flogging two hotels to other parts of their business. But yep, difficult to comprehend how they're still able to buy a shedload of players.

They sold Maatsen and Hutchinson for a combined £57.5m, which is just silly. The PL need to look into clubs doing each other accounting favours, that's for sure. But broadly speaking - those two sales get recognised up front, plus Gallagher if it happens - and their summer signings are heavily amortised. So they will be okay for now. But their model only works if they keep getting large transfer fees in every summer. Squad will be in a state of constant flux.

Didn't know they'd sold Maatsen, apparently Villa bought him for £37.5m  Omari went to the tractor boys for an Ipswich club record fee. Really don't understand why Villa would pay that, no way is Maatsen worth £37.5m!

This is part of the stuff the PL need to look into.

Maatsen joins Villa from Chelsea for £37.5m. Chelsea show 100% of that transfer fee in this year's accounts, Maatsen is 'home grown' (despite being Dutch) and from Chelsea's academy. However Omari Kellyman, a midfielder with two senior appearances to his name, finds himself moving from Villa to Chelsea for £19m. Kellyman is a Villa academy player, and they recognise 100% of that fee in this year's books. Meanwhile Villa only have to recognise 1/6th of Maatsen's fee this year, owing to his long contract, and Chelsea likewise have signed Kellyman to a six-year deal, and show just 1/6th of his cost in this year's accounts.

In short, both teams have bought a player, they have 'spent' a combined £56m, and both find their accounts better off this season. :D

This is, of course, just football's version of kicking the FFP can down the road, but with the size of PL clubs and academies, they can keep punting it along that road each summer.

Edit: Villa actually did this twice. They bought Lewis Dobbin from Everton for £10m, and sold Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for £9m.

 No wonder there's talk of dumping all this stuff that's so open to abuse and moving to the simpler method of salary caps on squads.

Sadly that's open to abuse just as much.

All the morden-day equivalents of players finding a roll of fivers in their boots at training - secret payments to overseas bank accounts; inflated image-rights or marketing agreements with players from companies who happen to be owned by the club's owners; other third-party or agents' payments; - all sorts of secret and creative ways to do it.

Yep. The impact of a salary cap is it basically stops the likes of Mbappe existing, in a financial sense. And so Real (in this example) would just find other ways of paying him.
