Eredivisie update imminent...

What I can say for now is that Feyenoord have lost two:

Ajax 2-0 Feyenoord
Feyenoord 0-1 De Graafschap

Leo Beenhakker has left, Mario Been is likely to follow.

Poor Leo B, he deserves better than he's had of late.

Gylfi started last night alongside new team-mate Ryan Babel. Hoffenheim suffered for fielding a few second-teamers, losing 1-0 to the unstoppable cup shamble of Energie Cottbus. Sigurdsson nearly scored an equaliser with 5 minutes left, but the Energie keeper parried his shot onto the bar. His full participation in the game suggests that he's not yet seen as first-team, but Ralf Rangnick's departure won't lead to his rotting, forgotten, in the reserves.

No great shocks in the Pokal otherwise - wins for Bayern, Duisburg and Schalke seeing off Aachen, Kaiserslauten, and Nurnberg respectively.

Real Madrid get what has been coming to them for the last few weeks and lose to a deserving Osasuna. Now effectively 8 points behind Barca.

That Werder - Bayern game was fairly violent all round. Germany international keeper Tim Wiese, who has form for kung-fu defending (note the punishment of a yellow card!), attacked Thomas Muller with some sort of flying scissor kick. At least he got sent off this time.

Gripping stuff indeed

If there's such a thing as a perfect goal, Rossi's winner for Villarreal at Espanyol in the next match is worthy of a nomin8ion at least (MUTE your volume control before clicking --loud bad music)

HSV - Pauli called off - riots almost ensue in Hamburg according to Kicker.

Happily, I'm still buzzing off Koln beating Bayern yesterday evening.

Barca went 10 points clear at the top after a Messi hat-trick beats Atleti and take Madrid's record for consecutive La Liga wins. Now that's got to hurt Los Blancos.

Steve McLaren is sent on his way by Wolfsburg, with Pierre Littbarski taking over for now. Yesterday Steve declared his side's form as 'absolutely unacceptable' after a 1-0 loss to Hannover, and today Dieter Hoeness agreed - bemoaning the side's 'belief in the success of losing'.

There's, like, a one-word way of saying the same thing in German along lines of ausenmausmächenflizengefühlningschautzen, yes?

Damn my eyes. He actually bemoaned them having 'lost the belief in success'. I should have tried to read the thing rather than lazily following Chrome's translation...

Ah, ausenmausmächenschnitzengefühlningschautzen, not ausenmausmächenflizengefühlningschautzen --easy mistake to make, really

Hey, Barcelona just played to 1-all draw away to Hee Haw and needed David Villa to lob the Sporting 'keeper* from just outside of the area on 80' for their leveller and a point

So that's their record run of 16 consecutive wins in the league ended a week after they'd bettered Real Madrid's standard of 15 in a row established in 1960-1

All of Barcelona's points dropped this season have come in competition against sides in the bottom half of the table headed into this weekend's 23rd round of league matches (Mallorca in 11th, Sporting in 13th and Hercules in 15th)

RM'll look to close to within 5 points of the leaders when they face Espanyol away on Sunday

*Speaking of lobs, wait'll you see the matchwinner from Racing v. Sevilla

Iker Casillas sent off just over a minute into the Espanyol match.

Edit:
Marcelo puts Madrid 1 up.

bobbybottler Handbags - a welcome win for Feyenoord yesterday

Absolutely. First win since the mid-season break, first win in five. One that takes a little pressure of Mario Been's shoulders, although there's some way to go yet to restore any pride for this season. Most fans I'd imagine will want to confine this season to the archives very very quickly!!

ADO Den Haag 3-0 VVV-Venlo (Toornstra 53, Bulykin pen 63 & 83)
Willem II 3-3 FC Utrecht (van der Heijden 25, Hakola 31, Rigters 89; Mertens 23 & 55, Vorstermans 92)
FC Twente 1-0 Vitesse (Chadli 39)
Feyenoord 2-1 Heracles Almelo (Miyaichi 18, Biseswar 33; Fledderus 46)
AZ 0-4 PSV (Berg 8 & 77, Dzsudzsak 30 & 66)
NAC Breda 0-2 sc Heerenveen (Narsingh 60, Assaidi 82. Schilder missed pen for NAC 47)
Roda JC 2-2 Ajax (Junker 41, Hadouir 81; Sulejmani 13, de Jong 34. El Hamdaoui missed pen for Ajax 88)
