URZZZZ Time and time again, Liverpool have conceded the first goal in a game ranging from the back end of last season to the start of this season - and yet they persist with this ridiculously risky high line

It just isn’t working and Klopp will find himself out of a job if he doesn’t fix it pronto

Aside from a 20/30 minute spell in the first half, they were really poor, lost it passing out from the back time and time again and the times they went more direct, Nunez was offside

I think Klopp needs to have bit of a rethink, but he’ll be given plenty of time. No chance of getting sacked for a long time.

Credit to Arsenal for how they dealt with their threats.

Fun hearing Liverpool fans crying about being cheated by the ref today.

Does anyone think they have a case?

I just think sometimes it goes stale for managers at clubs and they can’t fix it. Wenger, to an extent, ruined his legacy at Arsenal by staying there too long. Liverpool are in a situation where their first XI is ageing and therefore declining. Got some exciting youngsters in and around the squad but I see that as more of a project to get them into first team football. Will Klopp stick around for that? I’m not sure. I don’t see him being sacked soon but they’re on a really worrying run of results - 2 league wins all season including a very fortuitous win over Newcastle

On a side note, not much has been made of Firmino’s start to the season, gone under the radar a little bit but been their best player by some fair distance

Agree with your other post - how they can have the hypocrisy to moan about refereeing decisions is beyond me. I agree it was soft but how many times have Mane and Salah done that over the years. Used to really like Klopp at the start, a really refreshing character but he comes across as whingy and unpleasant now

Klopp walking away isn't an impossibility, but we are 15 games or so removed from Liverpool playing in every game possible last season and winning two trophies. Klopp isn't going to be sacked, ever - that's not how his leaving will be dealt with, if it happens.

As for the penalty shout, if it had been given, no-one would really be complaining, it was one of those.

Klopp is getting Salah totally wrong. He is completely wasted hugging the touchline.

Thought he did OK yesterday but the Salah of old would have had a field day against the RB Tomiyasu playing on the left. Surprised he was taken off to put Henderson out wide mind

Liverpool fans are no different from other fans when it comes to RTGs.

They could have had a penalty for handball (Neville thought it was a pen) and the penalty given looked like a 50/50 challenge to me and I felt that Oliver should at least have gone and had a look.

A very entertaining game .

Where do Liverpool go from here?
The top spot is now out of reach but there are 2 domestic cups and maybe yet another European Champs League to win.

Maybe early for a bit of doom, but from where they are now, a cup run and a top four finish feels like a decent end result. And yet, in pockets they are playing well, in attack at least, as they ever have. But Van Dijk is off the pace, and TAA is getting exposed.

Diaz's knee injury looks a bad one.

I don’t think Mane’s departure is the big factor people are suggesting.

In patches everyone in a Liverpool shirt has played well - it just seems they can’t all do so at the same time, as has been the case in recent years.

Ageing squad?

Fatigue brought about by so many high intensity, high pressing games.....?

....coupled with high intensity training sessions for which Klopp is supposedly renowned?

Maybe a year off of fighting week in week out on all 4 fronts will help them.

More likely major squad overhaul, a la Fergie, with surprising exits in the next couple of windows, I feel.

I think a lot of it is down to momentum and confidence. They need a run of 3/4 wins in a row but it just hasn’t clicked yet

Also when you see how strong the competition is, like City, you get to a stage where it becomes fairly demoralising as they’re already at a stage where they’ll pretty much need perfection to catch up. Same thing happened to City when Liverpool won the league at a canter. May be a case of them putting all their eggs into winning the CL already

I also agree with Mane although he was a player who could always notch a goal from no-where. The signs that Liverpool weren’t quite at it started from that dreadful first half against Villarreal, don’t think they’ve been good at all since then

Consistency is important, chopping and changing due to injury problems or looking to integrate new players in positions probably hasn't helped matters either and some sub-par performances from most individuals at times is becoming extremely apparent and is well documented. For example, all cameras faced TAA after 60 seconds yesterday, but nobody batted an eyelid at Gomez when Martinelli got in behind (in similar fashion to the goal, granted 10 yards higher) which eventually resulted in the penalty.

I do think they need Konate back who was a rock for them last season, he's a marked improvement on Matip and probably allows the defence to play 5-10 yards higher due to his pace and power. Robertson is being rotated and Tsimikas is just a downgrade on him. Mane's departure is a blow and adaptations will need to be made with Diaz a different type of player, but that should click in time, as well as Nunez adapting to PL life, bur whilst Firmino is in form, it might be best if Nunez takes a backseat for a few games with fleeting minutes to ease him in. Klopp has done that regularly with signings, where the likes of Robertson and Fabinho needed time to bed in.

I find this odd - in general, about most clubs. What is particularly offensive about Liverpool, or Klopp's Liverpool, that makes you wish the club a long decline? They have played some of the most exciting football of this era.

I’m with you on that

There are a few that get above themselves (more often the fans rather than anything else) and I can see why some would get pleasure from them falling from grace, but I don’t get the feeling that Liverpool, including the fans, have, in recent years at least, been those where they feel they have a divine right to win stuff.

Man Utd fans on the other hand

There are, of course, some unpleasant Liverpool fans around but that can be said about any club. Their decline is more likely to monopolise the league unless Arsenal can stay the course

I think a lot of people have a team they cannot stand, Liverpool are just my nemesis team. I hate their supporters with a huge passion, more so than the team.
