Wasn't at the game but check out this red card for Eastleigh's Jake Hesketh during the Weymouth game at the weekend:

https://twitter.com/EastleighFC/status/ ... 7704619012

Received a 3 game ban (appeal rejected) for violent conduct - for lightly batting away the refs hand.

I understand that putting your hands on a ref is a big no-no, but that does seem slightly extreme!

Yep - by all accounts he was a proper sh1t-ref.

First non-league ref to bring his own foam spray for free-kicks. And even in that short clip - looked like he was going to do nothing about the Jake Heskeths' initial testicle-high challenge (that was easily a yellow card).

Firstly I would say that you should never touch the referee, you are asking for trouble regardless of intent.

Secondly do we know if any language was involved? Did the player use strong swear words directed at the ref and then hit his hand? If so that could appear to be aggressive and in the referee's mind it would have appeared that there could have been malicious intent in the hand slap.

Thirdly and finally an experienced referee doesn't produce a red card there imo. Player frustration is part of the game and things get heated. If the referee had approached the player in a calm fashion, preferably with a smile on his face I think the situation wouldn't have gone to where it did. From what I have seen on social media this referee is particuarly bad and causes drama wherever he goes.

UPDATED Showing declared Postponements as @ mid-day today (8th) - there are some further local Pitch Inspections scheduled and will be more call-offs no doubt, as and when the match officals arrive....

...posting these up early but with some caution, as the weather forecast for the south is reportedly pretty dreadful - heavy rain from early PM tomorrow. There may be plenty of call offs later today and tomorrow AM - will try and keep up with them as best I can.
- a few been scrubbed already for unplayable surfaces not just the ongoing VIDS issues about.
May need to 'play the 3G card' tomorrow.......

Fair play to the non league team beating a Championship side, even if it was only us!

Watching Brackley, I've always said (half joking) that they play much better football than Reading
And that some of their players would be good enough to play at a much higher level given the right team, manager and tactics
This kind of proves that to be a reasonable assessment

Incidentally they beat Kidderminster 2-0 away earlier this season

Really wish I'd gone there today, to see another home win
Instead I found a stream and watched the Reading debacle

…were still a few very late call-offs – I decided not to venture out in the end and half-regret not making the effort to at least get over to Scours Lane .... but that heavy-ish downpour around here c. 13:30, had me convinced they wouldn’t go ahead.
It wiped out a fair number down on the N.Hants/Surrey borders - that reportedly had passed earlier inspections.

Just another Sunday League game at Datchet.

Massive bundle, non playing traveller lad gets kicked in the head while on the ground. Storms off, comes back with a hammer… police called, arrested him. Game abandoned. Jeez.

... difficult to find any silver linings after events elsewhere tonight but at least we aren't Staines.

They were beaten 0-12 tonight at home by Hanwell in Isthmian One S.Central.

....might do a bigger review later - though there weren't that many local sides in action higher up the Pyramid - most significant results to highlight are: Brackley's 1-0 win over Kettering in NAT-N that keeps them top and in SLP South leaders Farnborough win 2-1 at 2nd placed Met Pol.

Diddy went down 1-2 at The Loop to Berko in SL1-Central.

CORRECTION

Saturday 15th January 2022

FA Vase 4th Round
5 Wroxham P-P Walsall Wood - - got this round the wrong way - Walsall Wood removed for using an ineligible player in previous round - they have not appealed though there is some inference they were given conflicting advice from the County FA and the FA itself. Ansety Nomads re-instated and play Wroxham next Sat 22nd

...been adding in some of this AM's postponements above too - mixture of frost and wet-stuff especially to the West

Needham Market causing the biggest trophy upset this round?

Isthmian division with a couple of unexpected results at Basingstoke and Binfield. Bracknell going on and taking away the best home record in the division from Uxbridge. Bracknell have Thatcham next then a visit to Marlow.

FA Vase 4th Round

8 Coventry Sphinx 6-0 London Lions -

Correct - now play at their own ground - Rowley Lane - nr Barnet bottom of M1 - been there for a while after sharing up at Hemel/St Albans and Broxbourne, until they could put up lights. Read a few very favourable reports of their current facilities for the level they play at ..... but still not managed to get there yet .....

Looks as if the 'Maccabi' part, has been dropped from common usage haven't been called that since their Herts County League days , when I think they were initially based at Bushey - they've since been in SMids and then Combined Counties Leagues. As far as I can tell, they do refer to themselves as 'Maccabi London Lions' on their own social media outlets.

- technically, under FA (largely un-enforced) regs their name is probably deemed 'non-compliant.'

They aren't the only one's : see London Tigers, Met Police, FC Romania, Hashtag Utd, New Salamis, St Panteleimon, Corinthians (the Kent version) etc (I'm pretty certain the original 'Casuals' would be exempt) as being sides whose club names do not strictly refer to their immediate locale. I'm sure there are plenty of others in the top 6 Steps, where the FA have principle jurisdiction over these kind of constraints and probably can't be bothered to apply them.

There have been a couple of re-brands, that might suggest things could get corrected eventually, when they get round to it E.g. Pegasus Juniors in the Hellenic, did recently became Hereford Pegasus - probably cos they were switching back and forth ... and back again, between League Constitutions.
In the Midlands, the Sikh (?) outfit Guru Nanak Gurdwara have now been renamed GNG Oadby Town - though that may have been more a case of merging two existing clubs.

Sorry, have I got it right, there is an FA regulation that says essentially club names should be representative of the area in which they play? If there is then it’ll create havoc if it’s ever enforced as loads of clubs will have to change names eg. Port Vale, QPR, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, West Ham…
