Here's an early preview/schedule for this w/e

- FA Vase appeal done and dusted and Littlehampton re-instated - was some question hanging about as to whether Abbey Rangers might also get a reprieve/re-instatement and stage a 'face-off' with L'hampton to re-join this round - as Athletic Newham were thought to have transgressed legibility rules in the previous (3rd) Round too.
Unfortunate thing for Abbey is they lost on pens and Littlehampton were walloped 5-0!
...there's also the next round of the FA Trophy but none of our 'local' featured sides are involved.
Lower level representatives include Needham Market hosting Dartford, Cheshunt @ Stockport and Morpeth go to York

- saw Wallingford win comfortably (4-1) at Woodley (Rivermoor/Scours La) last night (Tue) raced into a 3 goal lead and then able to keep United at bay for long periods. Town have plenty of games in hand but have probably drawn too many already to make a serious challenge for the top spots - which appear to be sewn up between London Lions and Hilltop.
To be fair to the people running Reading City/Woodley they are bringing the venue up to a fairly acceptable standard now and not rushing things unduly.
Looks like there is some steady groundwork for improvement being done alongside the current clubhouse. That side of the ground has been laid to grass now and the car park is fully gravelled and not the potholed and randomly-boarded trip-fest it has been for yonks.
- inside the bar had come on leaps and bounds too .... with fresh-prepared hot food being provided - even for the 'lodgers' matches .... and the beer situation is much improved with far more choices stocked (bottles and draught) than has been the case in recent times.
... of course they have a long-way to go to remove the vestiges of 'Stalag Scours' that still prevails - much due to the surroundings/layout but they are making the effort - which is highly commendable.
-Now ..... if they could do a deal with 'Double-Barrelled' sited just the other side of the railway line ....... 8) 8)

As it seems the brightest spot among our local sides this season, the Isthmian South Central results yesterday:

Basingstoke Town 1 - 0 Ashford Town (Middx)
Binfield 1 - 3 Bedfont Sports
Chalfont St Peter 1 - 1 Westfield
Chipstead 0 - 2 Bracknell Town
Marlow 4 - 2 Staines Town
Northwood 1 - 1 Guernsey
South Park 0 - 0 Hanwell Town
Thatcham Town 0 - 2 Sutton Common Rovers
Tooting & Mitcham United 1 - 1 Uxbridge

Table

Pos Club Pld W D L F A Pts
1. Bracknell Town 26 23 1 2 65 10 70
2. Uxbridge 25 15 6 4 48 28 51
3. Chertsey Town 25 15 6 4 50 32 51
4. Hanwell Town 25 15 5 5 62 25 50
5. Basingstoke Town 24 15 5 4 50 35 50
6. Marlow 23 14 4 5 39 20 46
7. Bedfont Sports 22 13 5 4 49 30 44
8. Binfield 24 9 6 9 38 40 33
9. South Park 25 8 7 10 46 38 31
10. Northwood 26 9 3 14 35 51 30
11. Ashford Town (Middx) 26 9 2 15 36 45 29
12. Chipstead 25 6 7 12 37 44 25
13. Westfield 26 5 10 11 30 38 25
14. Thatcham Town 26 6 7 13 37 49 25
15. Tooting & Mitcham United 25 6 6 13 33 42 24
16. Guernsey 19 5 5 9 37 40 20
17. Sutton Common Rovers 24 6 1 17 27 63 19
18. Chalfont St Peter 24 4 3 17 22 55 15
19. Staines Town 24 4 1 19 25 81 13

By my maths Bracknell need 16 points from their remaining 10 games to claim the title. Their next 2 games are Tooting at home and then a trip to Basingstoke.

Bracknell’s 10 goals conceded is the best in the top 8 tiers in the country. Thinking that perhaps watching Bracknell’s games for the rest of the season might help towards forgetting the farce that’s currently masquerading as a football club in RG2.

Waltham Abbey 1-2 North Leigh
Wantage Town 1-2 St Neots Town ‘Freds fall to an 86’ winner’ but Colney Heath’s heavy defeat at FC Romania(6-1) drops them to the bottom – both sides are now well adrift of Hertford

Knaphill
1-1 Badshot Lea
Molesey 0-1 Banstead Athletic
Sheerwater 0-8 {EIGHT} Jersey Bulls was only 0-1 at H/T but an early Red card for the ‘Sheers’ eventually saw them implode 2nd half, conceding 4 in the last 10’

Cove 2-2 London Lions – good result for struggling Cove – I think they fought back from 2 down vs 2nd placed Lions
Eversley & California 0-1 AFC Hayes

Almost forgot to check how Reading were doing. But unfortunately I did

...since you mention it, I had a quick peek on footballwebpages.co.uk - good for basic STEP1-4 Stats etc

Their last league defeat was 1-4 at Notts Co on 11/12 in front of over 6k ... they've won 7 and drawn 2 of the next 9 and are 2nd only to Stockport on the form table in that period.

Haven't looked closer to establish why - Phil Brown lost the gig back in October .... sacked following a fans protest :? after a 4-0 reverse vs Chesterfield.

Appointed ex-player Kevin Maher as Coach towards the end of that month but the results didn't pick up immediately.

Off to Thame FC’s ground tomorrow for the big B & B cup quarter final between Long Crendon and Wycombe Wanderers. They are expecting a big crowd, so should be a good atmosphere.

...needless to say 'Dudley' put paid to nearly all NL games around here on Tuesday, bar the B&B Q-F @ Thame featured elsewhere .... and a couple played on 'plastic'.

In Southern Premier - South : Hayes and Yeading walloped Harrow 4-2 to draw closer to leaders Farnboro, only 1 pt behind now and still have a game in hand and far superior GD.
In Isthmian One South Central Bedfont Sports beat Guernsey on Wed night 3-1 - to get above Marlow into 6th and move closer to 5th placed Basingstoke with a game in hand.
In CCL-PS Walton & Hersham bt Frimley Gn 2-1 to grab top spot but both Beckenham in 2nd and Jersey Bulls in 3rd have games in hand on them.

...bearing in mind 'Dudley's' immediate successor 'Storm Eunice', is set to wipe out the half of the nation not already under 8 ft of snow ...if you believe the Daily Mail (!) :? .... so the NL programme may be disrupted this coming w/e - particularly further west?
I suspect the Leagues may give dispensation to call off games early, where there are any longer distances between clubs?

Will try and update as best I can over Fri/Sat AM - but provisionally this is what is scheduled:

UPDATE Early call-offs being announced already and the SSML has adjudged clubs can call off as early as this PM without awaiting the match officials. I think a fair number of grounds may not have dried out from the rain this week?
UPDATE ii) Sat 19th Midday - have marked those games declared OFF in RED below - is raining again round and about so doubtless more will be postponed when match officials assess nearer KO

Real shame County drew Wrexham - if that game was a final at Wembley you would be looking at around 50,000 gate.

Decent 2-0 win for Maidenhead v in-form Borehamwood played out in front of nearly 2.5k tonight Josh Kelly scores again.

9 points clear of the drop zone (and, with games in hand)…looks like another season in the top NL flight

– lots of late call-offs much - to be expected with that 2nd bout of mid-PM rain, once the Gales had subsided – though all seemed to have cleared up round here by 14:00 – so probably wasn’t too late for a dash to Scours La but unfortunately that had been scrubbed out an hour or so earlier. Burnham might have been a better option for goals too?
My list of ‘new’ ticks was almost completely wiped out – possibly wise to stay in - as one of the few remaining choices that did survive ended 0-0 and one of the others started quite late, as the match official reportedly hadn't bothered travelling!.

Scores from the matches that did go ahead:

Saturday 19th February 2022

NAT
Maidenhead United 2-0 Boreham Wood att 2,324 - ’Magpies’ led through a goal from Josh Kelly around 30’ and added a late 2nd half goal from Nathan Blissett to halt Boreham Wood’s race for the top. Hosts go 9 points clear of Weymouth and the drop-zone, with games in hand on those around them – no-one else now in the bottom 6, in action today. Barnet grabbed a valuable point at Torquay.

Notts County 2-0 Eastleigh
Stockport County 1-0 Woking att 6,820 - ‘Hatters/Cobras’ win with the only goal mid-way 2nd half to go 6 points clear of Chesterfield – hosts had a player sent off after H/T too. ‘Cards’ now 6 without a win and are getting drawn down towards the relegation dog-fight –together with Eastleigh and Wealdstone: both losers today

Wealdstone 1-2 Wrexham – Visitors come from a goal down with only a couple of minutes left scoring on 88’ & 95’ to stay 7th

IL1-SC
Bedfont Sports[/b] 4-0 South Park
Chertsey Town 0-0 Basingstoke Town - att 382 again testing conditions but Basingstoke sound proud of a hard-earned point against tough opposition – would appear ‘young’ Strudders (Paul Strudley) in goal did his admirable best

Sutton Common Rovers 1-2 Northwood

CCL-PN
Edgware Town 2-0 Reading City
Windsor 2-2 Wokingham & Emmbrook ‘Sumas’ came from a goal down (Horscroft 33’) to lead through Raggett and Holder-Spooner but Windsor levelled on 83’ (Lindell Stewart.)
CCL-PS
Beckenham Town 3-1 Knaphill
Camberley Town 1-2 Jersey Bulls ’Bulls’ grab the win with the last kick of the game (95’) – pitch was a challenge for both sides – perhaps any other away side than one travelling from Jersey, might have seen it postponed?

Went to the Maidenhead Boreham Wood match yesterday. Kids got in free so as you can imagine it was packed out which was great to see.

Thoroughly impressed with Maidenhead, controlled the game from start to finish and didn't really give Boreham Wood a sniff. Josh Kelly will 100% get a move to the football league in thr summer, no way are Maidenhead keeping hold of him.
Boreham Wood were absolutely awful, no idea how they are near the top of the league based off of the performance yesterday, think they have one eye on the FA Cup.

Been to Maidenhead twice now and really enjoyed myself on both occasions. Good grub, staff are great and they really aren't a bad little football team. Looking forward to going again.

Been brilliant for them since arriving in tier 5 of the game. Practically the only semi-professional team at that level and just keep surviving each year. Alan Devonshire is brilliant keeping them up. Wonder if they'll ever turn professional?

Their record against the top 7 is great, beaten all of them this season I believe. Staying in the league is an achievement for them which it looks like they'll comfortably do now, hope they can kick on next season.

Off to the Silverlake for Eastleigh vs Southend Utd tonight.

There's been a bit of an exodus over the last couple of weeks - first the manager and then maybe 4/5 of the younger/better players have been picked up by lower league sides - with loanees being brought in to replace them til the end of the season.

Either the club has just written the season off, or there is some deeper financial concern and its a fire sale.
