...just to keep the thread ticking over - no 'local' NL League fixtures about today bar a few more Pre-Season Friendlies - but STEP05/06 start today - Kent/Sussex/United Counties and Western Leagues.

... a few more that are on the 'preview' radar get going during this midweek - may post up any notables in due course.

Ascot's FA cup tie H v Cribbs has been brought forward to Friday night.

Possibly braving the no-Trains/Holiday traffic today and heading for a 'new tick' down the other side of Brizzle.

WEST1 Nailsea & Tickenham v Warminster

Thought about a few more 'possibles' to the east but the M25 is (*&^ed nr Chertsey .... and again round in Kent...

Went up to Wakefield, or more accurately to Featherstone, as they play at Featherstone Rovers' ground.

Unlike when they moved Emley to Wakefield, this incarnation seems to be fairly popular. 361 there yesterday in the NCEL1. Still pretty lost in a ground that holds 7000 though.

It didn't look like anyone had cleaned the seats for about 10 years though, or swept the terraces for about a year.

Formed in the summer of 2019, last year was the first time Wakefield were able to complete a season, as their first two where cancelled due to covid.

Without being unkind, it has to be said the Featherstone isn't the most attractive town in the world.

Chatted a bit to a northern premier league official before the game. It turns out Robbie Savage, as a director of Macclesfield, seems to be the same delight to work with now as he was in his playing days.

Bedfont FC have suffered significant damage from a huge grass fire that spread through the area yesterday.

From a Twitter pic looks like the pitch has been burnt but haven't seen anything about the full extent of damage.

Edit: Main pitch and clubhouse unaffected, but 50% of junior pitches damaged.

Yes has told them that if and when his commitments with the Royals U 18`s allow he will come and support the club and maybe play a few games.

...summoned up just enough post-work stamina and enthusiasm to trundle over to Lowther Rd, Emmbrook for W&E v W&C in CCL Prem North
- ended 1-1 in front of over 200.
- fairly unremarkable contest - visitors grabbed a very early lead and had the best of the 1st period but 'Sumas' came back into it more and levelled around the hour mark.

Neither side really threatened nor deserved to win it to be fair & even. On this very early showing I doubt either will be close to honours in Apr/May. Very dry pitch and of course a tad warm late evening - so perhaps unfair to judge so prematurely
- the clubhouse was decidedly on the 'uncomfortable' end of the spectrum - even with all the doors open.

..saw Mikele's name in the prog. but I don't think he was there last night - and he's not one you'd easily miss on/around the home bench - bearing in mind his size/stature!

Elsewhere Farnham got a creditable 1-1 draw at Babbs Mead with Jersey Bulls, in the Southern section of the CCL Premier. Crowd reportedly topped 600! :?
- and that's a ground that would get cramped fairly quickly - hasn't got the largest of surrounds.

Our featured sides were in action in the Hellenic Premier - relegated Wantage shared 6 goals with Corsham : Shrivenham went down 0-2 at home to RG St G from Bristol & RWBT overcame the 'Mangoes' of Mangotsfield - also relegated from the SL - 1-0 - the crowd there got close to 200.

In the Wessex Premier there was a remarkable 7-1 away win for newly promoted Bemerton @ Blackfield & Langley - Alresford won 2-1 at Shaftesbury. In Div One Ash were edged out by the odd goal in seven by Newport(IoW) whilst free-scoring Andover New Street punished the new boys from Fleetlands 4-0.

Seen highlights of a few non league games this week - striking thing is the lack of grass on a number of these pitches, or basically a brown pitch. Pitches will get hammered in the winter for sure.

Thanks for flagging us Sutekh! We aim to provide coverage of the men's and women's game across the county and one or two bits just across the border. Look out in the next few weeks for a brand new fixtures and results space that means it'll all be a bit more automatic.

Any questions on the local game let me know!

Looking forward to seeing Windsor's new look team tonight.

Thankfully most of the squad assembled by previous manager have gone and the returning Mick Woodham is quckly pulling together a bunch of players who (reports suggest) look to have bit more fight about them.

After 12 years of barely missing a home game and travelling to many grounds in the middle of nowhere my enthusiasm had waned considerably - the last couple of years have been pretty dismal, even though we finished 7th last season. The manager made zero effort to connect with the fans, as did most of his team, and that really does count for a lot at this level.

not a good night for our local sides in the FA Cup Extra Prelims last night (Tue 9th)

...the aforementioned Windsor were beaten 0-2 at Stag Meadow by RWBT who host Reading City in the next round.

There's a lengthy report on their website:
https://rwbtfc.co.uk/team/141/ft/report/00004765

There were also replay exits for Burnham (on pens at Easington), Egham, Alresford and Shrivenham beaten 3-4 in a thriller by Diddy.

Camberley's re-scheduled game down at Shaftesbury ended 2-2 so back to Krooner next week?

Spelthorne & Southall did progress to the Preliminary Round on 20th Aug.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did manage the long haul down to E.Sussex (Bexhill) for Little Common 1-2 Chatham Town - not much to write about - tight game played at a fairly new facility on a dry bumpy surface, inside a big public park shared with Cricket (but NOT overlapping)
- that's why the game was shifted back 24 hrs. They only moved back to Bexhill last season after lodging along the coast at Eastbourne Borough's stadium for a few years.
Plenty of noisy away fans in a crowd that looked close to 300 but was officially only 230 odd?
Very little shade.
Off to Basingstoke Town on Saturday. They really do need to get out of the division this season. It appears Leatherhead are the money bag team in this division and ones to beat. In other Reading FC related news Martin Williams is the manager of Whitchurch United.
As for Basingstoke Town - The return to the Camrose is now officially dead with all government and court roads now officially blocked.
Its now a simple process. Council work with Basingstoke Town to find them a suitable sight with Leisure Park and Manydown being talked about (which could take years) or, probably my preferred choice, kick Hampshire FA out of the Winklebury Complex, send them down to Stoneham, and then develop Winklebury. It is very plausible to turn that venue into a Conference Football Stadium. Infrastructure is in place. Also, for whatever reason, location works. Crowds of around 600 on a quiet day since they have moved are doubled to what they were experiencing at the Camrose and that was at a higher level. Town deserves a decent stadium and facilities.
Nice report but they make it sound like Windsor were more threatening than they actually were.
It's a very young team and they will learn but after a promising first 10 minutes, in truth, we never really threatened against a well-organised outfit who snuffed us out with some comfort. Can't recall a single shot on target.
