Silver Fox Ryan Lowe leaves Preston after one game

Sixth defeat in a row without scoring - I guess it was coming, he lost the fans last season.

Preston haven't been in the top flight for 60 years - and haven't made the Championship play-offs for eight seasons. Seem to have hit a real ceiling.

I don't get sackings after 1 game. If they were already questioning him at the end of last season, why give him all of pre season, signings, then 1 game and then sack him? its just made it harder for a new manager coming in

And it was the longest off-season I can recall. We had 3 and 1/2 months between seasons. Not as if the appointed had to be rushed.

That has to be a panicked knee jerk reaction surely? there is no way you could end a season unhappy with your manager and think lets give him 1 game into the new season before we decide

I get the impression that this was a genuine case of (to use the regular phrase) "mutual agreement" rather than the normal blunt Sugar type of "You're Fired".

Stepped down for mental health I've read

He said he likes Monday to Friday coaching but dreads the weekends

Yep Rydsdale was on the radio.....he asked to leave the club, wasn't sacked, in fact Rydsdale asked him to stay, but as you said, that quote summed up where he was mentally.

To be fair, their results did tail off in the second half of the season but they went from 12-5-1 in the first half of the season to 8-4-6 in the second half.

For some context, if they had replicated the second half of the season's results in the first half of the season, they would have finished, err, 2nd.

Neil Lennon has made a rapid departure from his latest attempt at management abroad, after just 6 games.

Well, that feels like another knee jerk - yes they've lost to 2 promoted sides (who both have 100% records) but it's 2 games.

When I saw that you had posted I thought that Man Utd had put Ten Hag out of his misery.

Not a bad appointment by Blackpool IMHO-Bruce has had a reasonable career and I expect him to feel refreshed after a spell away from the game.
I wonder what would have happened at Newcastle if he had the funds available that Saint Eddie has had

He spent £100m on Joelinton, Wilson, Lewis and Willock...

Side note, just seen Lewis is now on loan at Sao Paolo, which is a bit random.

With a view to being made permanent apparently, he's 26 now so getting on a bit but still a very leftfield move.

Have done a bit of research on transfer sums both in and out under the two managers.

Bruce in his time spent £140.37 million and recouped £72.78 million
Howe in his time has spent £636.35 million and recouped £134,860 million.

So it might be argued that if Bruce had been given more money then Newcastle might have done better than the 12th place that they were at when he was sacked-who knows, but money helps.

Pedant note-Howe bought Willock, he was on loan there under Bruce.
