From Despair To Where? Part of me thinks Chelsea are being a bit hard done by. On the other hand, its a horrible club.

In theory, we're only a Xi Jinping brainfart away from a similar thing potentially happening to us, although at least Xiu Li Dai is a British citizen.

Who are they?

Seriously DD.

Very much true on the second part - I don't know if Dai has any links to Xi but you would imagine we would find ourselves in a similar boat id China decide they really would like Taiwan back and if it happens, it happens, would struggle to complain about it.

Daily Mail (yes I know) leading with the story this morning that Nike are seriously considering pulling out of their deal, which would cost Chelsea about 540m.

Seems there is a very real, but probably unlikely chance, that the club may go to the wall before the end of the season.

I have little sympathy for clubs that bring stuff on themselves (Derby and even ourselves) but the club have done nothing to deserve that (save for maybe the crass fans and every team has got some)

One of the most unpleasant clubs in England funded entirely by money from a close friend of a dictator?

Deserve everything they get.

The chanting of Abramovich's name during a minutes applause for the people being killed in Ukraine took the proverbial biscuit.

If, Chelsea fans, Abramovich has nothing to do with the war in Ukraine, then why did you feel the need to coincidentally chant the name of your owner during a minutes applause for people dying in a war in Ukraine? Riddle me that.

Sure you'll get Chelsea fans saying that chanting isn't representative of the whole fan base, but the biggest policer of bad fan behaviour and racist chanting is the fans themselves, and i dont think we saw any mass attempt to get the "minority" to stop chanting his name last week.

The hubris of Chelsea fans has come back to bight them. Even if the chanting of his name made no difference with the authorities, it's certainly made a difference to this poster's lack of sympathy for their arguments that you dont punish a club for the non-deeds of its owner.

Every time a fan chants the owners name, every time they cheer a trophy won primarily due to the billions of pounds that owner has washed through the club, every time they cheer a goal scored by a player the club could otherwise not afford - they dig themselves into a hole.

Every fan of a club owned by someone mega rich from countries such as Russia, Saudi Arabia and China (so that includes us) chooses to ignore the fact that the person owning them is, in a lot but not all, cases, only rich because they have done some corrupt and potentially downright evil things. When that goes belly up, you lose the right to complain if you have accepted the good times without question.

Chelsea will likely be fine as someone will be allowed to buy the club before it goes to the wall. They may not be the club they currently are but someone will buy it. Chelsea are lucky. Are companies owned by sanctioned individuals generally allowed to carry on trading at all?

No, Companies in this situation aren't allowed to trade at all. As mentioned yesterday, Chelsea have been granted a Special Licence to do so.

So Chelsea fans should be grateful they were even able to have a game last night.

Reports this morning that the club apparently have enough cash for 17 days.

I suspect that the DCMS will quickly grant an amend to the Special Licence to allow the club to be sold; obviously, it isn't going to go for £4Bn or anything like that. Basically, they are in a fire sale situation now, and anyone offering £2Bn will have their hands snapped off (the money will go into a special account and will be frozen, and may even be used to help finance rebuilding in Ukraine once hostilities have ceased), because the alternative is quite simple - the club will go out of business.

As the Government calls the shots, this is actually a great opportunity for them to insist that any prospective buyer of Chelsea grants fans a "golden share" in the club; it will be interesting to see if Dorries does that.......

Chelsea fans are about to find out how much does RA really loves Chelsea FC, because he is not going to see a penny of any funds raised in its sale and if he delays the sale to try and argue this with HMG, or if he says "sod it, I'll not bother" the club will go under.

All good points but what should fans do? What choice do they have? They don’t have a say in who owns the club. The only choice is to withdraw their support.

Not saying it is easy for a fan but if you do not chose to do the latter and I'm sure some did, then you have to take the rough with the smooth.

I do think that Chelsea will survive this and will be sold in some form or other in the coming weeks as UKG will likely make an exemption on allowing a sale or simply force one to allow the club to continue.

What justification is a “temporary suspension”?

Innocent til proven guilty?

What about the 20 year old kid who works in the ticket office? Does he/she just not get paid? Not sure they are the bad guys here. Totally get Abramovich and the club itself not profiting at the moment but if this stops regular folk picking up their wages then it is a no from me.
