How can you sack a guy, when you're 5th in the table, and 3 points of 2nd? :|

Call him in for a meeting and let him know his services are no longer required I would imagine.

LoyalRoyalFan Parkinson next manager of Reading?

Why, he has not achieved much as a manager other than in a lower league with Colchester and then dumped on them a'la McGhee. A loyal player does not necessarily make a good manager, otherwise why were the Arsenal fans not calling for Tony Adams?

Precisely this. I would be disappointed if he was appointed manager of Reading given his record up until now. A fair few people have said to me that Parky should be next manager of Reading ("he's been a success at Colchester, done a good job at Charlton" but it's my feeling that a large part of this opinion is based on sentiment and nostalgia. His record in the Championship is nigh on woeful, albeit in a limited timeframe.

And anyway, players who hold legendary status at clubs who then return to manage said club rarely succeed. The pressure to succeed is also drastically increased to disproportionate levels IMO.

McDermott didn't have any experience in (Championship) management and is doing a decent enough job! :D
