Caps?

Club appearances, surely. Of which he's made c.950, not 430

Quality stuff - did I see right that the refs in Brazil use a spray of some sort to mark the position of the free kick and wall?

How many players have played 1000 games?

Is Pele the only player with the 1000 games/100 goals double? He needs another 59 appearances.

He's only got egg on his face once, in a 4-3 win against Fluminense in 2002. While he was celebrating scoring a penalty, Fluminense took a quick restart and lobbed him from the halfway line.

I think you might be a bit confused.

Pele is reputed (note scepticism) to have scored 1000 career goals (not 100). Doubt he made 1000 career appearances.

Most players with 1000 appearances would mainly be 'keepers I suspect. No idea if anyone has done 1000 apps/100 goals but my best guess would be no. Possibles could be Alan Ball or Roberto Carlos?

Not confused, I knew Pele has 1,000 recorded appearances, as well as goals, when I posted it, although accepting that they are 'reputed', as much as some of his goals. His Wiki page actually says 1,120 games.

Alan Ball is close, 975 career games. Roberto Carlos nowhere near ('only' 92 goals for a start).

In comparison, Stanley Matthews played 792 League + FA Cup games scoring 81 goals. Also add in 54 England caps and 11 goals. So, 846 games and 92 goals. And he played into his 50s.

Pele's '1000' goals supposedly includes all sorts of joke matches - I'm sure if you chucked in friendlies and the like then Matthews would hit the 1000games/100goals mark.

Brilliantly, Steve Claridge might be top of the tree on this - it isn't debated that he played 1,000 official games(unlike Pele and Romario), just some of them were non-league, and he certainly scored 100 goals.

Brazilian football had a ridiculous number of games every season, with a state league and national championship each season

R. Carlos has 11 international goals on top of the 92 club goals I believe (as in, I just Googled). It was only a guess anyway, and he seems short on appearances.

Arthur Friedenreich.

Another Brazilian, who scored 1329 in 1239 games (or 1239 in 1329 games according to other sources) between 1909 and 1935. Either way, it is an impressive total.

didn't Roberto Carlos only ever score one goal but then, Keyser Soze style, he convinced the world he'd scored like tons?

As for Pele, I believe his goals scored total is still rising as he claims one every time anyone watches Escape To Victory

Very much in that 'apparently' camp but Romario claims to have 1,000 career goals as well, I assume that's in over 1,000 games

FIFA officially credits Romario with 929 goals. All of his 1,000 goals are documented, but they include those scored in youth team games.

I'm not disputing that but it is FIFA's website that credits him with 1,000 goals as well http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/clubfootball/news/newsid=128880.html
