Weekend Football 3rd/4th Dec

Mike Dean bottles a 3rd minute red card, only booking David 'The Clown' Luiz for bringing down Ba, clear goalscoring opportunity

Class apart from the foul at the start. Although for a big man, Ba went down very easily.

Newcastle 0 - 3 Chelsea

If Sturridge had taken most of his chances it would have been about 8-0. Oh maybe 9 if Frank had tucked his pen away.

Matt Mills gets sent off for Leicester who go 1-0 down to the resulting penalty @ Hull.

Watched the game and agree with this. Sturridge was a little wasteful in front of goal (although his finish for Chelsea's third was very good) but his movement and running with the ball was excellent, and I really rate Mata as a player. He's still getting to grips with the Premiership but every now and then he shows little glipses of the undoubted quality he has.

Phil Jones puts Utd 1-0 up at villa park with a classy side-footed volley inside the box, has been coming to be honest and its his first goal for Man Utd.

the lilywhites still in third place...and have not yet been beaten by any side below them in the current league table(this season)..given that a "return" fixture has still to played with both manchester clubs, does this represent championship potential if form is preserved?

Frimble... Honestly, I think you're battling for 2nd...

Will be good for the game though. Sick of seeing the same top 4 for 15 years...

I'm not at all convinced Mclean would have got onto the ball even if Mills hadn't tripped him so IMO the red was a tad harsh

I tend to think that level of cynicism is deserving of red whether it's a clear goal scoring opportunity or not, although I appreciate it's not the rules.

I notice Motty was prattling nonsense about "last man" again for the Bolton red card. For me it was a clear goal scoring opportunity, because even if Zac Knight got across to make a challenge and prevent a one on one, that left two players free breaking into the box to be crossed to for one on ones of their own.

agreed..it would be a mountain to climb but there is a belief at the lane that the squad is good enough to meet that challenge.

Then you have no idea what the rule means, clearly. It's not about deciding if the subsequent passage of play would lead to the team creating a goalscoring opportunity but whether a clear opportunity existed at the time of the foul.

Spurs have had a fairly easy run of fixtures of late.

Spurs looking very strong at the moment, and actually playing nice football, compared to the other 'contenders'
