The next generation to dominate!

by TBM » 23 Jul 2012 12:15

Who do you reckon will be the next country to dominate the International scene after Spain have had their go?!

Brazil are starting to look strong again but i've heard a lot about Japan - apparently their energy, movement, ability on the ball is far superior at U16 level than other international countries

Who do you tip to be the next "big force" in world football? - or do you feel Spain will hold on to it for a long time to come?

No one. The "results > style" carbon copy culture will see too many Spains in the future, each playing out 0-0/1-0 games against evenly matched opposition.

Then in 20-odd years, England will show why it's wise to play hard and fast, kick 'n' rush football by winning the world cup with a team of Andy Carroll clones.

Probably Norway. They will use their famed "Norway tactics" that have defeated all of the worlds best teams including the likes of Brazil and Spain over a decade ago and Germany once in 73 years.

Belgium seem to be producing a "golden generation" at the moment. Cant see them dominating world football, but i can certainly see them moving into the top 10 in the not to distant future.

Beat me to it. They have a strong squad at the moment, a lot of the side playing for big teams across the continent. I would expect them to qualify for Brazil at the very least.

Well here's the next England squad, one with an eye on the future...

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Birmingham City), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Tottenham Hotspur), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Jake Livermore (Tottenham Hotspur), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Ashley Young (Manchester United).

Forwards: Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

The next generation to dominate? Doesn't really look like it does it. Interesting to see that Carrick has stopped sulking and made himself available again. It's perhaps starting look a more technically capable squad than previously, although I'm not convinced it's oozing with genuine quality.

He's fit but I don't think he's played too much for Spurs yet, so probably a bit early for him to get involved.

I'd be more worried about other teams will now try to replicate the spanish 2-8-0 formation and games will become a tippy tappy midfield passing borefest with the occasional penalty, free kick or gaff getting results.

Bit like international hockey then, where all you ever do is play for the penalty corner

The next country that can duplicate a Barca. Youth system, funds, European champ expectations. So, doubting Japan. Brazil if they can keep players into their mid-20s before skipping to European leagues. Believe they need to play together to duplicate the Spanish system.

Until then... agree with sandman. Norway.

With Terry now out of the way, and Rio apparently well down Hodgsons pecking order, it seems the next generation of England players will start to be playing more of a role in the next squad (a couple of weeks away).

I'm sure Cahill and Lescott will be the first choice pairing in the short term, with Jones and Smalling being their main threats for a while. Anyone else a serious contender?

As ever, there seem to be a few youngsters making an early impact on the Premier League (Sterling perhaps the main one so far). Any other youngsters impressing so far this season who might be future England hopefuls?
