I'm not entirely sure that's correct. I'd place that mantle firmly at the feet of Alan Pardew. McGhee, whilst ridiculously successful here, had both Quinn/Gooding, Bullivant and Burns afterwards who all did more than their fair share to put the club's success and fan's expectations back where they were.

that was my point. we saw what could be achieved playing attacking football - yes we dipped for a few years - but as a Reading fan McGhee made me realise that we didn't have to accept 3rd/4th division football.
